We're almost to conference tournament play and teams are trying to position themselves for higher seeds and potential byes. The American Conference foes UCF (15-9, 6-6) got the win over Memphis (14-11, 5-7) 68-64 in a back and forth matchup that saw UCF end a two-game skid and swept the two games against Memphis this season.
B.J. Taylor and A.J Davis led the way for the Knights with 22 and 20 points respectively. Both added four assists each and Davis had a game high nine rebounds.
As a team, UCF shot 53% from the field and 37% from three. They only converted 57% of their free throws. They won despite turning the ball over 13 times to Memphis 10.
The Tigers fought hard but just couldn't come away with the home victory. Kyvon Davenport had a game high 23 points from 6-8 shooting and 9-10 from the free throw line. Jeremiah Martin chipped in with 17 points for the Tigers.
The Tigers shot 41% from the field and 31% from three. They also shot 89% at the free throw line.
The Knights led at the half 32-30.
Taylor sunk a floater with 29.5 seconds left to give UCF a 66-61 lead. Taylor hit two key free throws with 16 seconds left to seal the game against the Tigers after Jimario Rivers hit a clutch 3-pointer in the corner for the Tigers.
The Tigers had a couple of chances to bring the game to just 68-64 but Kareem Brewton Jr. missed both 3-point attempts.
