Orlando, FL – No. 8 South Carolina continued it’s Bowl Game streak today with a 3rd straight win against No. 19 Wisconsin in the Capitol One Bowl at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Gamecocks Senior QB Conner Shaw had a stellar performance with five touchdowns (three through the air) to cap a record setting season and college careeBy: Jeff Nickle. When asked how he feels after having played his last college game, Shaw said “It hit me a little bit after the game in the locker room, but I’m sure it’ll hit me more once this all ends and just the hype ends. But, like I said, I’m just proud of our team and we’re establishing a winning tradition around here.” The win would also mark South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier’s 300th career game as a college coach. Following the win, something that has long been rumored, and finally confirmed, Gamecocks Junior Defensive End Jadaveon Clowney announced he will be entering the 2014 NFL draft. “I’ll miss everything about Carolina. I love it here.” said Clowney.

For Wisconsin, the failure may have come from a lack of balls thrown, coupled with losing QB Joel Stave in the 3rd quarter to a shoulder injury. After the game, Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen said of South Carolina “Unless you want to throw, you’re not going to get over the top on these guys, and they made that very clear very early. They were physical on the line of scrimmage. We got a couple of them, but in the end, I don’t have all the answers.” On the ground, both Melvin Gordon and James White had 100-yards rushing, but in the end it wasn’t enough to contain a fired up South Carolina offense. Today’s bowl loss marks the fourth straight for the Badgers. Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland commented on the Badgers’ bowl performances of late “We’ve played well in our bowl losses. I don’t think today was a great performance. But it’s not due to a lack of preparation or effort. We played hard. We prepared well. I’m not sure. I’d like to send the seniors out a better way but I can’t put my finger on exactly what we need to do better other than execute generally.”
