Josh Lee earns his third all-conference academic nod while Harry Ellis makes the team for the first time
(Tallahassee, FL.) – Two Florida State Men’s golfers in Josh Lee and Harry Ellis were recognized on Monday after making the All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team as announced by the conference.
Lee, who doubled majored in management and marketing, receives his third All-ACC Academic honor. The native of Orange Park, Fla., graduated in May after four outstanding years with the Seminoles. This past year, Lee finished third on FSU with a 72.67 stroke average and earned a second-place finish at the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate on April 9.
Lee trailed only Ellis this year with 110 birdies. In his four-year career, he ranks in the FSU career Top 10 in rounds at par or better (48 – ninth), career rounds played (129 – seventh), counting scores (98 – ninth) and birdies (383 – seventh).
Ellis finished his redshirt junior season and has one year of eligibility left at Florida State. He is a sport management major from Southampton, England, who earned exemptions to the upcoming Open Championship, 2018 Masters and 2018 U.S. Open after winning The Amateur Championship. On Saturday, Ellis came back from being four down with five holes left in match play to defeat Australia’s Dylan Perry in sudden death on the second playoff hole.
The England native has taken off in 2016-17, earning PING Honorable Mention All-America honors. He set career marks in everything, finishing second on the team with a 71.62 stroke average while recording three Top 5 finishes. Ellis led the Seminoles this year in par 3 scoring (3.10) and birdies (130). His 39 rounds at par or better this year is the second-most in program history, only trailing Hank Lebioda’s 40 rounds in 2014-15.
Ellis was also one of 11 All-ACC Team golfers who also earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
