Orlando, FL - UCF entered Saturday evening with a 6-1 record having only lost to #3 Villanova. Their opponent, 1-8 Maryland Eastern Shore, who’s only win this season came against Central Penn. Tacko Fall was celebrating his 21st birthday, and celebrate he did, ending the night with a double–double.
Tacko opened up the scoring for UCF with a bucket and a trip to the free throw line that he drained to put the Knights on top 3-0. This was the start of a 9-0 run to open the game for UCF before the hawks called a timeout with 16:43 left in the first half.
The decision by Maryland Eastern Shore head coach Bobby Collins would be a good one, as they went on an 10-2 run after UCF opened an 11-0 lead. With 11:27 left in the 1st half, Tyler Jones hit a triple to tie the game at 13 for Maryland Eastern Shore.
UCF then went on a 13-2 run to take a 26-15 lead on the Hawks. The Knights domination continued as they went to the half up 37-25 on the Eastern Shore Hawks. Tank Efianayi lead the way in scoring for UCF with 9 points, while Tacko Fall added 8 points and snagged 7 rebounds to lead the team.
AJ Davis opened up the scoring for the Knights in the second half with a triple to make it 40-25. This gave UCF their biggest lead of the game to this point at 15. Shortly after, Nick Banyard hit a triple to give UCF a 17-point lead with 18:35 left in the game.
Maryland Eastern Shore wasn’t going away though, and they went on a 9-0 run to make it 44-36 with 17:21 left on the clock. However, UCF continued to out muscle the Hawks and Tacko Fall continued his reign on the boards. With 13:50 left in the game, Fall recorded his 10th rebound for the 7th double-double of his career.
Though with 10:56 left on the clock, the Hawks had cut the lead to just 7 points. Then it was Matt Williams hitting a triple and Tank Efianayi getting a layup to extend their lead back to 12 points with 9:36 left to play as the Hawks called a timeout to try and regroup and stay in the game.
This time the timeout did not pay off or stop the bleeding. UCF went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 20 points with 7:01 left to play. However, the Hawks would then get their next three baskets without UCF scoring, which cut the lead to 14 with 5:33 left to play. This would be as close as they would get to UCF down the stretch.
In the end it would be Matt William’s 1st career double-double (23 Pt. & 10 Reb.) and Tank Efianayi 20 points, matched with Tacko Fall’s 7th career double-double getting the Knights the 76-58 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
