Preds Defeat Sharks in Down to the Wire Thriller
Jacksonville FL- Gerald Young took a late field goal attempt by Jacksonville that fell just short of the goal line back 49 yards to seal another Orlando Predators thriller come from behind win. Orlando QB Bernard Morris got the start over Boltus, who is expected to return next week, going 19-33 for 342 yds and 7 td’s as he led the Preds to a 57-50 victory over the Sharks.
As the 4th quarter got under way, Orlando trailed the Sharks 36-27 with possession of the football. Morris connected with WR Larry Brackins in the end zone on a 14yd TD pass to bring Orlando within 2 making it 36-34. But the Sharks continued to fight capturing a touchdown on their next possession to make it 43-34 midway through the 4th.
Both teams would trade TDs again bringing the score to 50-42 with only 30 seconds left in the game. Orlando took their final possession looking to tie the game. As Morris dropped back to pass he was able to see WR Khalil Paden with room to work with, so he fired a laser to Paden whom then took the ball in a full sprint 22yds to the Promised Land for 6. This brought Orlando within 2 of the Sharks and they were forced to go for two. Morris was able to capitalize on the 2-point conversion finding Brackins yet again, thus tying the game up at 50.
On the ensuing Sharks drive the Pred’s D stood strong not allowing a 1st down conversion, forcing a 4th and 10 on their own 3yd line with just 14 seconds left in the game. The Sharks brought in their field goal kicker in to attempt a field goal, but it was to no avail. The kick fell short and Young fielded the ball and took it 49 yards the other way for a Predators touchdown.
Orlando will prepare for their first home game in the month of May as they face the Pittsburgh Power at CFE Arena with a 7:30 pm kickoff.
