CARMEL, Ind. – Isaac Haas scored 20 points with 11 rebounds and Team USA made 11 of its last 12 free throw attempts to defeat Team Canada in an exhibition game in front of 3,780 fans at Carmel High School.
The two teams are competing in the World University Games in Taipei and will wrap up a brief, two-game series on Saturday at Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana.
Team USA jumped out to a 24-17 first-quarter lead, but trailed at the break 43-42 after Team Canada used a late second-quarter run to wipe out a 10-point American lead.
Team USA then outscored its northern neighbor 52-43 in the second half for the eight-point victory.
Haas led five players in double-figures with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. The 7-foot, 2-inch center from Hokes Bluff, Alabama, was 8-of-9 from the field.
Carsen Edwards added 14 points, Vincent Edwards had 13 points and nine rebounds, and P.J. Thompson and Dakota Mathias chipped in with 10 points each.
Team USA’s four seniors (Haas, V. Edwards, Thompson, Mathias) accounted for 53 of the 94 points scored.
The Americans shot 32-of-73 (.438) from the field, 6-of-21 (.286) from deep and 24-of-32 (.750) from the free throw line. Both teams had 17 turnovers and Team USA outrebounded the Canadians 49-43.
