Carr Scores 5 TD's as Preds Hex Voodoo 63-48
Story By Adrian Beecher
Orlando, FL- Saturday night it was the Greg Carr show as the Orlando Predators defeated the New Orleans Voodoo in convincing fashion 63-48 at CFE Arena. The win comes as a redemption win as the Voodoo defeated Orlando in their first meeting this year. Both teams struggled to get things going early on in the game resulting in a 12-7 lead for the Voodoo at the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter though, the pace picked up tremendously. |
Midway through the 2nd quarter Orlando Predators quarterback Jason Boltus connected with Carr on a 13-yard TD pass to put Orlando up 14-12 with 6: 45 left in the half. The Voodoo would answer right back as Kurt Rocco connected WR Chase Deadder on a 33 yard TD pass on the 2nd play of their next drive to put the Voodoo back on top 19-14.
On the Pred’s next drive the Predators would get called for offside’s on the offense, but the ref’s let the play continue and Jason Boltus was stripped of the ball by Xavier Brown and ten picked up by Tyus Jackson who took he ball into the endzone for 6. This put New Orleans up 26-14 with only 3:55 left in the half. But the momentum would soon swing.
On the next drive Boltus led his Preds 26 yards down the field in just two plays capping off the drive with a 5 yd. TD run by Greg Carr. On the ensuing kickoff Orlando went for the onside kick and recovered the ball trailing 26-21 with just 59 seconds left in the half.
Boltus would lead the Preds down the field in 6 plays to milk the clock, on what was supposed to be the final play of the half Boltus threw an incomplete pass. But a defensive penalty would give the Preds new life and one last chance to score before the half. On the very next play Boltus connected with Greg Carr on a 2 yard sideline pass that gave Orlando a 28-26 lead going into the half.
Orlando continued to hold the moment as the third quarter opened up, scoring three unanswered touchdowns and holding the Voodoo out of the end zone until the final play of the third quarter. This gave Orlando a 49 to 34 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Greg Carr was named the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the game as he finished the game with 7 receptions for 58 yards and 4 receiving TD’s. Carr also tallied a rushing touchdown to give him a total of 5 TD’s on the night.
“He’s a professional, he comes to work every single day. He literally is coming to work, a lot of guys come to have fun but he (Carr) is coming to work.” Said Head Coach Rob Keefe of Carr. “ He doesn’t mess around, he has the eye of the tiger and guys feed off of him”
Though the Voodoo were able to pull back within one touchdown, their fate was seal as the Predators locked in a 63-48 victory over New Orleans to improve to 5-2 on the season. With the loss, the voodoo fall to 1-5 on the season.
Orlando will prepare to head out to the west coast for the time this year as they are set to face the (4-3) San Jose Sabercats at the SAP Center in San Jose California May 3rd. Kickoff is set for 10:30pm.
New Orleans will look to get healthy as they enter their bye week before heading to Philadelphia to face the Soul on May 10.
