Orlando, FL-The University of Connecticut Huskies came down to Orlando and faced off against the University of Central Florida Knights. UCF defeated the Huskies by a score of 70-61.
The Knights came out strong against the Huskies in the first half, holding them to only 29 points while scoring 31 themselves. Right from the beginning the Knights controlled the pace of the game, leading by almost 10 points with eight minutes to go in the first half.
UCF guard BJ Taylor and forward AJ Davis led the Knights in scoring for the first half with Taylor making all three of his field goals, adding six points and Davis with seven points of his own. The Huskies were led by guards Terry Larrier with 11 points and Antwoine Anderson with eight points.
The second half was not any better for the Huskies. They had a few moments where they came close to putting it together, but the Knights were always one step ahead of them. The Knights were aided by their 61% shooting from the free throw line. UCF Forward Chad Brown and guard Dayon Griffin pulled down eight rebounds each. This kind of contribution on the boards definitely helps fill the void that was left by injured center Tacko Fall, who is out for the season with a torn labrum.
With this victory, this marks the first time UCF has beaten the Huskies in CFE Arena and only the second time that they beaten them at all. The stand out player of the game was Taylor who scored 20 points in 29 minutes. After missing 16 games this season due to a foot injury, Taylor has returned with a vengeance. In the last two games, he scored in double digits and with these 20 points, that makes it three games in a row. With this kind of consistency, the Knights can make a lot of noise to close out the regular season. UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins said, “Nine more games, we have nine opportunities and we’re just gonna max them out.”
