(Orlando, FL) Orlando City B pulled a point after a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati at Orlando City Stadium. Orlando City midfielder Jordan Schweitzer opened up the scoring with an early goal. This was his first goal for the Lions.
The home side started early, scoring on their first attempt of the match. The goal came in the 2nd minute when Orlando City midfielder Austin Martz carried the ball on the right-side of the field. As he approached the end of the field, the 25-year-old raised the scope and saw Schweitzer entering the box. Martz sent a ground cross that Schweitzer pushed into the back of the net from the penalty spot.
In the 12th minute, Orlando City goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. made a terrific save after passing the ball by mistake to FC Cincinnati midfielder Kenney Walker. The goalkeeper exited and shortened Walker’s possibilities of scoring. Finally, Edwards Jr. stopped the ball with his feet.
The home crowd went crazy because their team was playing at a high level and found the advantage on the start of the match. However, the lead would not last long.
Fourteen minutes later, FC Cincinnati midfielder Andrew Wiedeman spotted FC Cincinnati striker Djiby Fall all alone and sent a cross from the right-side. The ball traveled through the box, but on the other side, Fall was waiting for it. The Senegalese native putted the ball inside of the net and caught the keeper off guard, leaving him with nothing to do.
After Cincinnati evened the score, the match turned sides. Orlando City’s level of play dropped from the high level at which they were playing at and Cincinnati’s play picked up.
In the 36th minute, Cincinnati had another clear chance for a goal after Fall ran past several OCB players. However, after shooting from the edge of the box, Edwards Jr. made an amazing save with his feet to keep the home team in the game.
Orlando City had the chance to score another goal at the 66th minute when defender Zachary Ellis-Hayden sent a cross that Orlando City striker Albert Dikwa headed. However, the ball went near the left-hand side of Cincinnati goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt, who cleared to a corner kick.
OCB played the last three minutes of the match with ten men after forward Pierre Da Silva was issued a red card. Yet, the referee first showed him a yellow card, but after “reviewing the foul” he decided to change it into a red card.
The Lions registered 45% of the ball possession, while FC Cincinnati had 52%. Moreover, OCB had a total of four shots (two on target). On the other hand, the visiting side had fourteen shots (seven on target).
Earl Edwards Jr. went off as a captain again today after midfielder Lewis Neal’s injury.
“He [Edwards Jr] deserved it [captain armband]. The whole point of the Orlando City SC signing Josh Saunders was for Edwards Jr. to play with OCB” said Anthony Pulis, head coach of Orlando City B.
