Written by George Simon (July 24, 2016) - Orlando City B drew 2-2 against the Wilmington Hammerheads to get a point at Titan Soccer Complex on Sunday night by the sandy beaches in Melbourne, Florida.
During the first half, the Hammerheads took the initiative and possession of the ball without creating any clear opportunities. OCB took the lead in the 25th minute of the match thanks to a penalty kick goal from Michael Cox, getting his 7th goal of the season. However, in the beginning of the 2nd half, the Hammerheads got an early equalizer from a header by Ashani Fairclough. Just a few minutes later Wilmington was left with ten players due to a red card to Bruno Perone. With the 1 man advantage, OCB created several opportunities on Wilmington's goal but Eric Ati had some great saves saving the Hammerheads. In the last 15 minutes, Orlando pushed forward and got the lead thanks to a fantastic long shot by Tony Rocha. With the 2-1 on the scoreboard, Orlando could not control the game, and Wilmington went over OCB's goal and got a late goal on the last play of the match from Liam Miller. With the final 2-2 score Orlando City B gets a point and remains 9th in the Eastern Conference of the USL with 26 points. Anthony Pulis, OCB's coach, addressed his disappointment in the result after the match. "I'm disappointed not only about the result but also about the performance, I think is one of the poorest of the season" Despite that, he still thought they were going to capture the victory until the 90th-minute goal by Wilmington, " I thought we were going to get away with it (The victory) and we didn't" Orlando City B will travel to Kentucky next week to face the current leaders of the Eastern Division the Louisville City FC on September 30th. |
