(Orlando, FL) Orlando City B came out a winner after the match against Charleston Battery. Pierre Da Silva and Lewis Neal scored for the Lions and Herviel Cordovés for the visiting side for the final score of 2-1 Lions.
In the sixth minute, Charleston Battery had the first chance of the game when defender and captain, Taylor Mueller, headed a corner that went wide to a goal kick.
In minute 28, Battery forward Romario Williams scored a goal that was later annulated by the referee because he was offside. The Jamaican headed a cross inside the box that left Orlando City B’s goalkeeper Jake Fenlason with nothing to do.
Three minutes later, OCB’s starlet Pierre Da Silva shot from thirty meters out. The ball hit the base of the post and went in. He was assisted by midfielder and captain Lewis Neal. The crowd roared by the masterpiece that the youngsters had just scored. That was Da Silva’s third goal of the season.
“It was the only option I had. I took a touch forward and saw the goal and the chance to score…” said Pierre Da Silva during a postgame press conference.
Minute 35 Lions defender Zachary Ellis-Hayden went down with an injury. He received an impact with the ball on his head and fell to the ground. After going through a few checks, the medical team decided that he could not continue the game. He was substituted six minutes later by defender Fernando Timbó.
“He [Ellis-Hayden] has a mild concussion, which is disappointing,” said Orlando City B head coach Anthony Pulis after the game.
A minute before the end of the first half, OCB’s forward Danny Deakin almost scores similarly as Da Silva did. The OCB player dribbled Mueller and shot with his left foot. However, the shot kissed the post and left for a goal kick.
Two minutes into the second half, OCB goalkeeper Jake Fenlason became a hero after making a huge save against forward Romario Williams. The 21-year-old intercepted Williams’ shot with his left hand, and the defense later deflected the ball.
Da Silva tried a bicycle kick in the 54th minute. However, Battery goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper quickly saved the ball.
Five minutes later, defender Rafael Ramos had a fantastic chance with a free-kick. Cooper had to fly to send that ball to a corner and prevent the MLS defender from scoring.
Deakin had a chance to redeem himself in the 62nd minute, but he missed a great opportunity. Da Silva had thrown a cross into the box that he kicked over the goal.
Charleston Battery equalized the scoring in the 81st minute when substitute Herviel Cordovés shot the ball into the net. The Cuban received the ball inside the box and, as the defenders approached him, he shot quickly and the ball traveled between defenders’ legs. Despite Fenlason’s efforts, there was not anything he could do.
However, it was not over yet. Six minutes later, OCB went up in the scoring again when captain Lewis Neal received a ball deflected by the Battery’s defense. The 35-year-old sneaked the ball in even though Cooper almost collects it. The crowd celebrated that one of the most iconic players of the team scored the winner.
“It was just only being at the right place, at the right time,” said Neal in a postgame press conference.
