Orlando, FL- Orlando City and D.C. United met at the Camping World Stadium for the Lions final game of the season. The Lions were able to win the match, with the final score at 4-2, but missed the post season by 1 point fir the second season in a row.
“I’m obviously very pleased with the performance. The players gave us everything that they could and I’m really pleased. They deserve thanks for what they did because it’s not an easy thing to be trained the way they’ve been trained and also the sacrifice they’ve made for the club, fans and staff,” Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis said. “What I really liked was that there was really a sense of urgency to how they approached the first 15-20 minutes of the game and I think that should became a trademark of Orlando City.” The Lions played the first half well, with determination and urgency just like the coach said as Kevin Molino scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute with an assist from Rafael Ramos. They then continued their aggressive attack, scoring their second goal seven minutes later to give themselves a 2-0 lead as the teams went into the locker room at the half. The second half was no different as the players put in their all for the remaining minutes of the match and scored 2 extra goals for team. Christian Higuita gave Orlando City their 3rd goal, with it being his first goal of the season. Julio Baptista then connected with the net just 14 minutes later after being substituted in and gave the team its 4th goal. D.C. United’s goals both came in the 2nd half with the first coming from Alvaro Saborio and the second from Kennedy Igboananike. Orlando Citys players Christian Higuita, Kevin Molino and Kaka all had something to say about the their performance that night and how it felt to play with the team. “’It’s very exciting for me. It’s my first goal in two seasons here with MLS and I’ve been working hard to reached this point and hope I continue to keep doing so,” Christian Higuita said. Kaka then had a few words to say on the next season. “We have to look forward to the next season and take lessons from these 2 years. This is a good thing to learn if we want different results.” The Orlando City Captain then said that the team had the motivation to win and that supporters should expect that next season. Kevin Molino added by saying that he had very good memories with his team and that he couldn’t wait to get back with them after the vacation.

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 2, 2016) – In its penultimate home match of the regular season, Orlando City SC (7-11-14, 35 points) dropped a 1-0 decision to the Montreal Impact (11-10-11, 44 points) on Sunday afternoon.
“Obviously, we’re all very deeply disappointed. We all put a tremendous amount into that game. We really gave our hearts and souls to it, from the build-up the past several days, and even before that in the days before Toronto. We’ve given everything we can from coaching staff to the players’ point of view. I couldn’t be happier with the work everybody’s done [this season] and the effort everybody’s given,” Lions Head Coach Jason Kreis said. “But soccer can be a cruel game. I think that’s what we saw today. Because, in my opinion, we did everything but finish our chances. If we had finished one of our chances I think the game would’ve been much different.” The Lions, playing with a sense of urgency, dominated the match from the opening whistle. Kreis put out a strong attacking lineup, with Antonio Nocerino, Kaká, Kevin Molino and Matías Pérez García behind All-Star striker Cyle Larin, and City controlled the run of play throughout the match. Kaká was all over the pitch in the first half, creating threatening chances from each wing and up the middle. The Brazilian found Molino on the right wing just seconds into the match and later made a dashing run of his own up the left wing and into the box. Orlando City posted one of its strongest defensive performances of the season, allowing a season-low four total shots. The Lions completed over 250 more passes than Montreal and held nearly 67 percent of possession. Montreal found the match’s only goal in the 56th minute when Dominic Oduro got behind the back line and fired a shot into the back of the net. The Lions turned up the intensity with Kreis introducing Júlio Baptista at halftime and later subbing off stalwart defensive midfielder Servando Carrasco for Colombian winger Carlos Rivas. Rivas, who had a goal, two assists and earned a penalty kick in City’s 4-1 win over Montreal on Sept. 7, immediately sparked the Lions’ attack. The 22-year-old lofted a gorgeous ball in for Baptista, but the Brazilian’s header went wide. Minutes later Rivas fired a long distance free kick just inches over the bar. With Sunday’s loss, Orlando City is eliminated from playoff contention. Orlando City gets two weeks off before its next game, when it heads to Philadelphia to take on the Union on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET. The Lions return to Camping World Stadium for the season finale when they host D.C. United on Saturday, Oct. 23.
