- With their 17-14 victory over Wake Forest yesterday, head coach Steve Addazzio and his Eagles have a record of 6-6 and are going bowling for the third time in four years.
- The victory was sealed in the last minute, with an interception by sophomore defensive back Lukas Denis, it was the first of his career.
- Despite accumulating only 167 total yards on offense, the Eagles were able to get scores from, Myles Willis on a 11-yard run and Tommy Sweeney on a 13-yard pass from Patrick Towles.
- Kicker Mike Knoll had 22-yard field goal to open up the scoring in the first-quarter. Knoll has hit his last five attempts since getting one blocked against N.C. State. He finishes the regular season 11 for 12 on the year, with a long of 40 yards. Knoll, has been one of the team’s unsung heroes this season, taking over all kicking duties after the first game of the season, adding stability and trust to the position.
- The Eagles defense delivered great performance with its season on the line, limiting the Demon Deacons to just 287 total yards, holding them to just 2 for 15 on third-down attempts and forcing two turnovers.
- Linebacker Connor Strachan led the team with 10 total tackles. Senior captain John Johnson added 9 tackles and a first-quarter interception that set up the Knoll FG.
- Defensive end Harold Landry continued his dominance this season, accumulating 7 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and a career high 3 sacks. Landry, now has 15 sacks on the season, setting a new single season record at BC. His 19.5 career sacks place him fourth all-time at the Heights.
- Going into the final two games of the season, after blow outs of 52-7 and 45-7 at the hands of Louisville and Florida State, many were calling for Addazzio’s time at Chestnut Hill to come to an end. In securing a bowl-bid his job should be safe for at least another year.
- It is important to note that with all the outside talk, one forgets to think about how the players feel about their coach and his staff. With a young team, 64 members are redshirt-sophomores or younger, this is important. Take a look at some of the quotes after the game:
- “Everybody tries to come at our coaching staff, everyone on this team in this program, we all love the coaches here, we wouldn’t want anyone else coaching us.” – Landry
- “This is the closest team environment I have ever been apart of.” – Willis
- “I got into this business for one reason and one reason only. To make an impact on kid’s lives.” – Addazzio
- It appears the coach has made an impact, and will continue to do so this season. In becoming bowl eligible, the Eagles will gain 20 extra practices, and those added chances to develop this team will only add totheir growth.
- Bowl matchups will be announced on Sunday, December 4th.
