Through Twitter on Sunday, Boston College, and Steve Addazio, announced the four players that have been voted by the team to lead the Eagles as captains this fall. Seniors, Truman Gutapfel, John Johnson, Myles Willis, and Tyler Rouse are the awarded players.
Defensive tackle Gutapfel comes off a season in which he totaled 26 tackles, 7.5 for loss, and 2 sacks. He was also Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic team member as a Junior.
Johnson, a safety, leads a secondary that ranked fifth in the nation last year. He made his mark in 2015 against Louisville, accumulating 11 tackles, 8 of them solo.
Willis is currently fourth all-time on BC’s all-time return yards list with 1,613 yards. The running back has also accumulated 1,064 yards, and 4 touchdowns on 215 carries in his career at the Heights. He has been a model Eagle off the field as he represents the ACC on NCAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He is on the 2016 Wuerfell Trophy Watch List.
Rouse, has risen the depth chart in his three years as an Eagle. The former Gatorade Play of the Year for New York totaled 7 touchdowns last season for the Eagles. The running back had 111 yards and 2 touchdowns against Syracuse last year. He also had a 3 touchdown game against Howard. He has become a vocal leader and a favorite of Addazio’s.
The Eagles open the season on September 3rd against Georgia Tech in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
