Anticipation for the 2017 college football season is growing in Chestnut Hill. On Tuesday, the Boston College Athletic Department released the Eagles 2017 gridiron schedule.
Head Coach Steve Addazzio’s team will open on September 1 with a trip to Northern Illinois. The Eagles and Huskies last met in 2015 at Alumni Stadium with Boston College holding on for a 17-14 victory.
The Eagles home opener will be on September 9; they will host ACC opponent Wake Forest. BC beat the Demon Deacons in their final 2016 regular season game, 17-14, to gain bowl eligibility.
Long standing rival Notre Dame will return to Alumni Stadium on September 16th. It will be the first match-up between the Eagles and Fighting Irish since the two squared off at Fenway Park, where the Irish walked away with a 19-16 victory, in 2015.
The Eagles will then travel down to South Carolina on September 23, to take on defending national champion Clemson in an ACC Atlantic Division matchup. The Eagles will be looking for just their fourth victory at Death Valley in 11 tries.
Addazzio will bring his team back to the Heights for a two-game home stand against, Central Michigan on September 30, and conference opponent Virginia Tech on October 7.
BC will then head to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals on October 14. Jackson had seven touchdowns in a 52-7 rout of the Eagles in Chestnut Hill this past season.
The Eagles stay on the road and will stop at Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on October 21. BC hasn’t lost in their five games against UVA.
The lone Friday Night home game on the schedule will be on October 27, against Florida State. The Seminoles hold an 11-4 series advantage over the Eagles.
BC will host Senior Day on November 11, against N.C. State in their final home game of the year. The Eagles ended a 12-game ACC losing streak with a 21-14 victory over the Wolfpack in 2016.
The Eagles will return to historic Fenway Park on November 18, as the road team against regional opponent UConn. BC hasn’t lost in 13 meetings with against the Huskies.
The 2017 season will end with a trip to Syracuse on November 25. The Orange were victorious in the last meeting with the Eagles. In a heated affair, Syracuse left Alumni with 28-20 conference victory.
Boston College (7-6, 2-6 ACC) closed out the 2016 season with a 3-game winning streak culminating with a 36-30 Quick Lane Bowl victory over Maryland. The Eagles will return 17 starters in 2017, including All-America defensive end Harold Landry. The rising senior set a BC record, and led the nation, with 16.5 sacks last season.
