After getting outclassed in all phases of the game in their 52-7 loss at the hands of No. 6 Louisville, the Eagles (4-5, 1-5) travel down south to take on a Seminoles (6-3, 3-3) team that is looking to finish strong after not living up to extremely high expectations entering the year.
Let’s get down to business and take a look at the questions Super Fan’s will be asking before they get their roommates pizza order for the game.
So, that was an embarrassing loss last week any takeaways?
Just one, why in the world were their not more fans at the game last week? You have one of the most talented teams in the country coming to your house, bringing with them the best player in the country, Heisman front-runner Lamar Jackson, and the place was quiet.
I understand the Eagles did not stand a chance, but the state of Massachusetts had what is most likely it’s only chance to see a once in a lifetime talent before he goes pro. I was highly disappointed.
Ouch, that stings I am going to pretend it didn’t happen, moving on. What are you looking for out of the Eagles this week?
I want to see them actually compete with one of the best teams in the ACC. They were blown out by Virginia Tech, Clemson and Louisville. Head coach Steve Addazzio keeps preaching that this is a young team, however their needs to be improvement at some point and their needs to be proof that this team can compete with the best that the conference has to offer.
Do you think that is possible against Florida State?
I actually do. Florida State hasn’t really blown anyone out this year, aside form Charleston Southern. Most recently they had a scare at North Carolina State last week, squeaking out a 24-20 win. You might remember the Eagles snapped their 12 game ACC losing streak down in Raleigh, two weeks ago.
Florida State has struggled defensively at times and outside of Dalvin Cook, have not been consistent on offense. If Addazzio can get the balanced offense that he keeps talking about clicking and the defense can stop letting up huge plays they should be able to compete and make this a game.
What are the keys for the game?
Shut down Cook. The Eagles held him to 54 yard on 14 carries last year. If they are able to make him a non-factor, they will be able pressure freshman quarterback Deondre Francois into making mistakes.
On offense, like I said they need a balanced offense to control the clock. The player that I will be looking for is running back Davon Jones. The redshirt – freshman has worked his way into a timeshare with John Hilliman. Jones has been very productive, averaging 4.4 yards a carry. I am expecting Jones to have a breakout game at some point this season, and there is no better time to do that than a Friday night in Tallahassee on national television.
I actually think the Eagles might have a shot now! What is your prediction?
As a wise man says every Saturday, not so fast, my friend. Based on the season that the Eagles are having that is all wishful thinking on my part. Until they can prove they can hang with the top teams, I got to go with Florida State in another blow out 45-12.
Weekly Fun Facts
The last time the Eagles beat a ranked team on the road, was actually in Tallahassee. In 2008, the Eagles beat the No. 20 Seminoles 27-17.
Cook, is just 126 yards away from Warrick Dunn’s school record of 3,959 rushing yards. The Eagles defense is only allowing 107 rushing yards a game this season.
