CLEVELAND – Orlando Predators wide receiver Greg Carr has been named the 2014 NET10 Wireless Rookie of the Year, the Arena Football League announced Thursday eveningat the Awards Ceremony in Cleveland. The award marks Carr’s second individual accolade in as many weeks, as he was also named a Second-Team All-Arena performer last Thursday.
“We knew from the first practice that we had someone special in Greg Carr,” said Head Coach Rob Keefe. “His professionalism and the way he prepared for practice was unparalleled. He’s a tremendous athlete and made huge plays for us all year. We are so proud that he was voted the AFL’s NET10 Wireless Rookie of the Year.”
Carr (6-6, 230, Florida State) led all rookie receivers in the Arena Football League with 113 receptions for 1,435 yards and 36 touchdowns in 18 regular season games. He added 10 yards and another score on six rushing attempts and was successful on six two-point conversion attempts, resulting in 240 total points scored.
In two postseason contests, Carr also caught 19 passes for 171 and six touchdowns while posting nine yards and another score on three carries. He totaled 132 receptions for 1,606 yards and 42 touchdowns during the 2014 season (combined regular and post).
Although a majority of his accomplishments came on the offensive side of the ball, the highlight of Carr’s rookie campaign may have come on defense. When the Predators faced off against the New Orleans VooDoo in the second-to-last game of the regular season, Carr filled in at defensive back when ejections credited a significant need. With the game tied in overtime, Carr intercepted a pass attempt by VooDoo QB Adam Kennedy and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. The returned sealed the victory and clinched the 2014 South Division crown for the Predators.
“I would like to thank God first, as well as my teammates, coaches, and the Orlando Predators staff,” Carr stated. “I am accepting this honor on behalf of our team because we all earned this award. I would also like to thank our fans for their constant support this season.”
