ORLANDO, Fl- Randy Hippeard threw 6 touchdowns passes and completed 26 of 29 passes, as the Predators handed the LA Kiss their 4th loss of the season and remain in sole possession of 1st place in the South Division with a 61-48 win at the Amway Center.
Adrian McPherson and Morgan Donavan connected early or the Kiss on a 34-yard touchdown play giving LA a early 7-0 lead. Their lead didn’t last long as Hippeard answered back two drives later on a 39-yard touchdown pass to wideout Gregg Carr.
Orlando got another quick score on a 1-yard rush from Bernard Morris to take a 14-7 lead with 3:56 left to play in the 1st quarter. That lead wouldn’t last long for the Preds as McPherson put his legs to work on a 4-yard scamper into the endzone to tie the game up at 14 before the end of the 1st.
In the 2nd quarter the Predators struck first with another Bernard Morris rushing score that put Orlando up 20-14 with 10:31 left in the half. After the Preds took the lead again, each team went back and forth answering each other score for score. At the half Orlando was clinging onto a 34-28 lead over the Kiss.
Randy Hippeard was on fire at the half, completing 11 of 12 passes for 175 yards and threw 3 touchdowns.
As the 2nd half got underway, the Preds wasted little time putting some distance between them and the KISS. With 12:26 left to play in the 3rd, Hippeard connected with Greg Carr in the back of the endzone for the 2nd time of the night on a 15 –yard touchdown pass that made it 40-28.
The Kiss refused to fade away though and continued to fight back answering with a score of their own with a 3rd rushing touchdown from McPherson. This cut the lead to 5 with 8:14 left in the 3rd.
As we hit the 4th quarter the Preds were leading 47-42 and threatening to score again. It took just 9 seconds for Hippeard to find Larry Brackins in the back of the endzone on a 12-yard touchdown to put Orlando up 54-42. This all but sealed the deal.
LA would get on the board one more time with McPherson connecting with Donavan Morgan in the end zone for the 2nd time of the night. McPherson finished the game completing 17 of 34 passes for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Hippeard continued to build off his league leading passer rating Saturday night, connecting with 5 different receivers completing over 89% of his passes.
“The game plan coach put in tonight was perfect and to my benefit I was out there and able to execute, the guys made some great plays for me tonight.” Hippeard humbly expressed after the game on his performance.
The Predators look to continue their 3 game wining streak next week when they head to the state of Washington to play the Spokane Shock in at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on April 25th with a 10pm ET scheduled kickoff.
