Florida State makes its 25th appearance in the NCAA Championships held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
(Sugar Grove, IL.) – The 21st-seeded Florida State Men’s Golf team prepares to compete against the nation’s best beginning Friday as it participates in the NCAA Championships held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The format begins on Friday with FSU teeing off at 8:07 a.m. ET/7:07 a.m. CT. In the second round on Saturday, the Seminoles tee off at 1:27 p.m. ET/12:27 p.m. CT. The first three guaranteed rounds Friday-Sunday will be based off stroke play. Should FSU be in the Top 15 through three rounds, it will compete in an additional stroke play round on Monday.
In Monday’s final stroke play round, the Top eight teams will advance to match play. The Golf Channel begins its coverage of the NCAA Championships on Monday, May 29 (Memorial Day), beginning at 4 p.m. ET
The quarterfinal match play matches begin on Tuesday, May 30, at approximately 8 a.m. ET. The semifinals will be played later in the day. At approximately 3:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the championship match begins with full coverage on the Golf Channel.
The Seminoles bring their same starting five from the NCAA Regional in Washington – redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar, redshirt junior Harry Ellis, senior Josh Lee, sophomore Bennett Baker and sophomore Corey Carlson.
In four of the last seven seasons, FSU Men’s Golf has finished in the Top 11 of the NCAA Championships. Its highest finish ever was its third-place showing in 2010.
For the sixth consecutive year, Florida State Men’s Golf has punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships. The streak is the longest active one in the ACC and tied for the fifth longest nationally (Texas - 11; USC - 11; Illinois - 10; Oklahoma - 7; FSU - 6; Auburn - 6).
Florida State boasts multiple All-ACC Team selections for the 11th consecutive year. Heading into this year’s NCAA Championships, the Seminoles are led by all-conference picks Del Solar (Reñaca Viña Del Mar, Chile) and Ellis (Southampton, England).
Del Solar is ranked 54th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and leads FSU with a 70.85 scoring average, while Ellis is FSU’s leader in par 3 scoring (3.09) and birdies (119).
The Seminoles reached the NCAA postseason for the 12th consecutive year when they were awarded a No. 4 seed at the Sammamish Regional in Washington. FSU has made an NCAA Regional in every year since 2006.
Team captain Ellis tied for fifth overall at the Sammamish Regional with a 3-under score, leading FSU into the Final 30. Lee tied for 15th finishing at 2-over. FSU tied for third overall at 10-over.
Florida State’s average par 5 scoring of 4.78 is currently the fourth-lowest in a season in program history. The record holder for lowest par 5 scoring in a season
is the 2014-15 squad (4.75).
Heading into this year’s NCAA Championships, FSU’s starting five has a combined six appearances in the Final 30. Del Solar leads the group with three (2014-16), Lee has two (2015-16) and Carlson owns one appearance (2016).
