Pride begin home-and-home series with the league’s second-ranked team
(ORLANDO, FL.) – Coming off of its most dominant victory in team history, Orlando Pride (5-5-4, 19 points) heads into Saturday’s match at Chicago looking to continue its recent stretch of road fortunes. The Club posted a 4-1 win over FC Kansas City on July 15 - the largest margin of victory at Orlando City Stadium to date - but will see a tougher test when it faces the Chicago Red Stars (7-3-4, 25 points) at Toyota Park on July 22, a venue in which the Red Stars are undefeated in this season. Saturday’s match will mark the fifth time the Pride are featured on the NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime, with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can also watch online at NWSLsoccer.com. “[Chicago’s strikers are] difficult. The key thing [for us] is defenders need to be on their mettle from minute 1 to minute 90. We need to make sure we always have a spare player in the back. Our defenders need to be marking, even when we are in possession of the ball. We need to be aware of what is going to happen next,” Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “If we turnover possession, [Chicago] are going to get the ball forward very quickly to [Christen] Press or [Sofia] Huerta and they are going to go straight to attack us either in behind or up to feet. That is going to be an issue that we are going to have to deal with in this game. Going away from home, we need to make sure that defensive discipline is there.” With a 2-0-1 record over their last three road games, the Pride will look to extend their recent string of positive road results but will have to score their first-ever goal against the Red Stars and also break free from a pattern. In their three all-time meetings, Chicago has won each game by a 1-0 scoreline. Last weekend, the Pride tied their record for goals scored in a 4-1 win over visiting FC Kansas City. Orlando jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead behind Alanna Kennedy’s second goal of the season and Alex Morgan’s first, a penalty kick in the 38th minute. Kansas cut the lead to one goal through Maegan Kelly, but the Pride responded with goals in the 70th and 75th minutes to comfortably take all three points. Defender Toni Pressley scored her first NWSL goal in the match, a thunderous strike from outside of the box while Kristen Edmonds capped things off with her first goal of the season. Pressley’s goal went on to be named the NWSL Goal of the Week, while Aubrey Bledsoe’s 40th-minute stop earned Save of the Week honors. Bledsoe, who has played in seven matches this season, has already won the award three times and has racked up a 4-3-1 record. In addition to tying the Club’s record for goals in a match, the Pride set a new benchmark for shots in a game (25) and shots on target (11). Alex Morgan also totaled seven shots over her 90 minutes, matching her single-game high and tying her own Orlando record. The Red Stars retained second place in the standings with last week’s draw against Sky Blue FC, but were forced to settle for a point after Sam Kerr scored in the 90th minute for Sky Blue FC, ending the match at 2-2. Christen Press and Sofia Huerta scored for the Red Stars. It will be the second straight week the Pride’s opponent is coming off a disappointing result at the hands of Sky Blue, after Kansas City dropped all three points in the match preceding the July 15 contest. In the last meeting between Orlando and Chicago, the Pride dominated the match at Orlando City Stadium but were unable to find the back of the net. Morgan made her 2017 debut in the contest, but Chicago was awarded a penalty kick in the 68th minute. Press’ goal from the spot proved to be the difference. After Saturday’s match, the NWSL will see a bye week for the first-ever Tournament of Nations, a round-robin tournament featuring the USA, Australia, Brazil and Japan. Seven Pride players will take part in the tournament with Morgan, Ali Krieger (USA), Kennedy, Steph Catley (Australia), Marta, Monica and Camila (Brazil) all called to represent their countries. The Pride return to Orlando City Stadium on Aug. 5 to host the Red Stars in the second leg of the home-and-home series. The match will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at orlando-pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY. Written By: Derek Robbie (Orlando, FL) In the match between Orlando Pride and FC Kansas City, Saturday evening was a coming together of two United States Women’s National team stars, Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux. The first 20 minutes of the Orlando Pride vs FC Kansas City started out as an even, cagey affair. With Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan getting the two best chances from a through ball and a header served from a corner. Not long after minute 20, Pride defender Alanna Kennedy rifled a header into the net from a short corner routine putting Pride up 1-0. For the next 15 minutes of game time the ball was almost exclusively in the Pride’s attacking third. After two players getting tangled up in the box, the referee called a penalty. Alex Morgan stepped up and placed the ball in the back of the net to put Pride up 2-0. Not long after, Pride’s light-footed, Brazilian right back Camila Pereira weaved her way through opposing players eventually nutmegging KC’s left back, Rebecca Moore before whipping a cross in the Kansas City’s box. The final 10 minutes of the half consisted of the Pride keeping the pressure on FC Kansas City by pinning them in Kansas City’s defensive third. Halftime could not have come sooner for the visiting side, due to them being overrun towards the end of the first half. The first 10 to 15 minutes of the second half was the opposite of how the first half ended; FC Kansas City was forcing the Orlando Pride to defend much more than they were comfortable doing. The pride weathered the storm that Kansas City was throwing at them thanks to two blocks by Camila and one by the British-born forward Chioma Ubogagu within those first 15 minutes of the half. In the 56th minute, Morgan was subject to a hard foul that caused her to stay down for several minutes. This gave her team the chance to recover and plan how to change the flow of the game to their favor. Turns out that is exactly what the Pride needed because once play resumed, Orlando was immediately back on the front foot. What seemed like seconds after Morgan getting back on her feet she had a chance whipped in from the left wing that she tried to poke with her toe, but Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart was in prime position to scoop the ball up into her grasp. In the 62nd minute Kansas City brought on forward Maegan Kelly for midfielder Erika Tymrak, and within 2 minutes Kelly tucked the ball in the back of the net against the run of play to cut Orlando’s lead in half. This one goal lead did not last long though because in the 70th minute Orlando defender Toni Pressley hit the ball perfectly and scored a screamer from 30 yards out into the bottom right corner of the goal. In the 75th Barnhart took a bad touch on a back pass that Pride midfielder Kristen Edmonds[AB4] peeled off her feet and tucked in the bottom corner to make the game 4-1. The Pride would go the remainder of the game controlling it until the final whistle blew. After that result, Orlando Pride jumps to 4th place where they are tied with Portland Thorns FC. FC Kansas City stayed in 8th place after that loss. The next game that the Orlando Pride will play in is Saturday, July 22 at 7:30 PM against Chicago Red Stars in Chicago. The next home game is Saturday, August 5 at 7:30 PM. Orlando Pride starting XI was: [G] Aubrey Bledsoe, [D] Camila, Ali Krieger, Toni Pressley, Stephanie Catley, [M] Alanna Kennedy, Dani Weatherholt, Chioma Ubogagu, Marta, Rachel Hill, [F] Alex Morgan. FC Kansas City starting XI was: [G] Nicole Barnhart, [D] Rebecca Moros, Yael Averbuch, Becky Sauerbrunn, Brittany Taylor, [M] Brittany Ratcliffe, Christina Gibbons, Desiree Scott, Katie Bowen, [F] Sydney Leroux, Erika Tymrak. Fact: This equals the highest scoring game the Orlando Pride have had the entire 2017 season.

(Orlando, FL) The Orlando Pride dropped points again at home, after a 1-0 loss against the Chicago Red Stars. Chicago forward and captain, Christen Press, scored the winning goal from a penalty kick. Orlando forward Alex Morgan entered as a substitute for the Pride and played twenty-five minutes.
Although Orlando dominated most of the match, Chicago’s defensive approach to the match resulted in a victory for the visiting side at Orlando City Stadium. The goal that gave the Red Stars the three points came from the penalty kick. At the 67th minute, the referee called the penalty after Orlando defender Toni Pressley tackled Chicago defender Casey Short. One minute later, Press scored the penalty on the right-hand side of Orlando goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe. As the visiting team celebrated their goal, the stadium was completely silent. The Pride had the chances throughout the game to score. At the 30th minute, Orlando forward Marta took a shot towards the right of Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, on her left-hand side. However, Marta’s shot was not powerful enough and was easily blocked by Naeher. At the 67th minute, Pride forward, Jasmyne Spencer, shot the woodwork out of the ball with a shot that every fan expected to celebrate as a goal but it unfortunately, they did not. In the 73rd minute, midfielder Orlando outside back Camila attempted to score from outside of the box, but the ball went slightly out, off the right-hand post. Another great chance of a score for Orlando came from Marta when in the 75th minute, she sent a cross that Orlando midfielder Alanna Kennedy fought for in the air against Naeher. Kennedy won the battle with a header inside the small box, but the ball went over the post. The most dramatic and best chance for Orlando came in the 90th minute. It was the last play of the game and the Pride had a corner kick. Bledsoe left the goal and went into the box to help score. Marta sent the ball into the box and the most unexpected player received it, Bledsoe. The ball hit her face but it was still heading into the net. Unfortunately, the ball was deflected with a header from a Chicago defender. However, that was not it. After the ball traveled through the air, Orlando captain Ali Krieger shot a wonderful volley that, once again unfortunately struck the post. Everyone at the stadium could not believe how unlucky the Pride had been. Then, the referee ended the game shortly after. The Orlando Pride had a total of twenty shots (four on target), while Red Stars had six in total (two on target). The Pride also dominated ball possession with 62%, while Chicago Red Stars had 34%. Moreover, the Pride had 9 corners and 23 open play crosses, whereas Chicago had one corner and one open play cross. These numbers illustrate what the match broke down to. A home team with lots of chances and encouraged to play the game on the opposite side of the field. While, the visiting side basically “parked the bus” the entire game and encountered a goal thanks to a foul committed in a counter-attack. “It is very difficult to play against a discipline team as Chicago is. So, when the teams come here and park the bus it is difficult for us to score. These is something we need to work on and do better.” said Orlando Pride head coach Tom Sermanni at the postgame press conference. Furthermore, Morgan made her 2017 debut with the Orlando Pride after coming back from a loan spell with French club, Olympique Lyonnais. Orlando Pride line-up: [G] Aubrey Bledsoe; [D] Kristen Edmonds, Ali Krieger (C), Toni Pressley, Stephanie Catley; [M] Maddy Evans, Monica, Alanna Kennedy; [F] Rachel Hill, Marta, Jasmyne Spencer. Red Stars line-up: [G] Alyssa Naeher; [D] Sarah Gorden, Katie Naughton, Samantha Johnson, Alyssa Mautz; [M] Sofía Huerta, Julie Ertz, Danielle Colaprico; Vanessa Di Bernardo; [F] Christen Press (C), Taylor Comeau. The Orlando Pride will travel to face the Washington Spirit at the Maryland SoccerPlex on July 8th, 2017. The Chicago Red Stars will play against the Boston Breakers at the Jordan Field on July 7th, 2017. FACT: The match had a total attendance of 5,476.

(Orlando, FL) Orlando Pride lost Saturday afternoon 2-0 at their home stadium, the Orlando City Stadium against Houston Dash. Carli Lloyd and Rachel Daly were in charge of scoring both goals in a disappointing match by Orlando Pride. Orlando Pride came from beating Houston Dash 4-2 at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
Orlando Pride mostly dominated the first half of the match. Pride had two clear chances in the first half. First, in minute 22, striker Rachel Hill received the ball on the verge of the box and shot with at second touch. However, the ball went straight into goalkeeper Jane Campbell’s hands. Then, at the 26th minute, defender Stephanie Catley sent a cross which was finished with a header by forward Marta; her header hit the crossbar and left for a goal kick. Dash had the clearest chance of the match in minute 41 when defender Poliana hit the ball over goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe’s head, but Catley was there to clear the ball on the line. First half would go into 3 minutes of added time, which is just how much time was needed for Houston Dash to take the lead. Poliana dribbled down the side drawing out a defender to leave striker Carli Lloyd open at the top of the 18. Poliana waited for the perfect pass then played the ball straight to Lloyd in the 49th minute where she took a one-time shot to sink it in the upper 90 giving Lloyd her first goal of the season for Dash and their first goal of the match. Lloyd’s goal ended the first half leaving Dash with 1 point and Pride with 0. Houston Dash seemed to take control in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Dash could put their second point on the board. Poliana came up big with the assist again drawing the defender wide leaving forward Rachel Daly room to get open inside the box. When Daly was free Polinana played a beautiful pass to Daly where she could one time flick it right past Bledsoe. With Daly’s goal that closed the scoreboard. However, Dash was not done trying in the 79th minute Dash has a corner kick and Polinana almost had her chance standing on the near post she went up for a beautiful header but hit the post, and it was deflected away by Catley. In the 81st minute Dash forward Janie Beckie had her chance one on one with Pride goalkeeper Bledsoe, but she was not allowing it she kept her eye on the ball and was able to make a beautiful save to deflect the ball out of the box. It was a back and forth match until the final whistle blew leaving Dash with 2 and Pride with 0 points. Following the match, we got a chance to speak with Orlando Pride’s head coach Tom Sermanni who said; “Any time you lose a game you are obviously deflated. Losing at home makes it even harder. But losing at home and you do not play well, makes it harder still.” After today’s result, the Orlando Pride fell into the 7th position with 12 points, while the Houston Dash climbed to the 8th with 9 points. Orlando Pride will travel to face Sky Blue FC on June 28th, 2017 at the Yurcak Field. Whereas, the Houston Dash will receive Boston Breakers at their home stadium, the BBVA Compass, on June 28th, 2017.

(Houston, TX) – Orlando Pride (3-3-3, 12 points) set a Club scoring record on Saturday night, racking up a 4-2 win over the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium. The four goals in the match marked the most goals ever scored in a single match for the Pride, while Marta set a single-game scoring record with four points on two goals and two assists, playing a role in each score.
“I’m obviously delighted with the win because we haven’t gotten very many wins on the road. It was a very important result for us and I think the best part of the result was how clinical our finishing was,” Orlando Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “At four-nil, I don’t think that was necessarily a fair reflection on the play because Houston is a good side and they create chances and play some really great soccer. So, overall, I was just really pleased with the way we finished things.” Though the Pride were outside 15-9 in the match, the visiting side were most efficient in their opportunities, putting in four of their six shots on goal. Despite having been away for two weeks on international duty - and meeting back up with the team only a day prior in Houston - the Pride’s Brazilian contingent showed no hiccups in their game. Sixteen minutes in, Camila put the Pride up 1-0 on a laser-focused shot from nearly 40 yards out. The former Dash player collected a pass from Marta, created some space for herself then blasted a shot into the upper-left corner beyond the best efforts of Houston goalkeeper Lydia Williams. Orlando’s lead jumped to 2-0 shortly after when Marta capitalized on the counterattack. After goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe made back-to-back saves on Carli Lloyd at the other end of the field, Marta collected a small push-pass from Camila at the midfield line and drove the length of the field for her fourth goal of the season. On the previous set of plays, Bledsoe punched down a screamer on Lloyd’s dead-center set piece to deny the U.S. international in her first NWSL appearance this season. Just a minute after, off a corner kick, Lloyd had another go with a hard, left-footed volley but Bledsoe was up to the task. She denied the back-to-back FIFA World Player of the Year with a diving save to her left. Bledsoe picked up her second consecutive win, making four saves in the outing. Marta bolstered the Pride lead again in the 57th minute, from nearly the same spot as her first, after Jasmyne Spencer used her speed up the middle lane and picked out her teammate on the left hand side. The Pride’s fourth goal came on Alanna Kennedy’s first in purple, with the Australian rising high above the Dash defense and heading in Marta’s corner kick service in the 68th minute. Saturday’s win marked Orlando’s first road win since May 20, 2016, when the Pride earned three points in the same city, defeating the Dash 1-0 on a late goal from Kristen Edmonds. The Pride and Dash will see a quick turnaround before their next meeting, wrapping up a back-to-back series next Saturday at Orlando City Stadium. Tabbed as the NWSL’s Lifetime Game of the Week, the match will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET from Orlando. Tickets are available at orlando-pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY. Orlando looks to grab second win at home
(Orlando, FL.) – After three weeks away, Orlando Pride (1-3-3, 6 points) returns to Orlando City Stadium on Saturday evening, hosting the Boston Breakers (2-3-2, 8 points) at 7:30 p.m. ET. The match will mark just the third home game for the Pride, which played five of its first seven matches away from Central Florida. Saturday’s match will livestreamed at NWSLsoccer.com, go90.com and on the go90 app. Live updates can also be followed on the Pride’s official Twitter page, @ORLPride. “It’s not just the significance of this game. It’s the significance of turning our season around and getting results,” Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “There’s still another 17 games to go so you don’t pin everything on one game. But what is important is that we pick up points and that we start moving up the table and we start getting in contact with the teams in the top half.” Orlando heads into Saturday’s match looking to repeat magic from its last home game when the Pride earned its first win of the season, taking down undefeated North Carolina Courage, 3-1, in front of the home crowd. The Pride burst into the second half of that match with two quick goals, scoring in the 49th and 50th minute, as well as a late insurance goal, en route to the three points. Most recently, the Pride traveled to New Jersey where they fell, 2-1, to third-place Sky Blue FC. Orlando jumped on the board first through Jasmyne Spencer’s second goal of the season but the home side scored a goal on each side of halftime to take the win. The Pride also posted the highest possession total by any team this season. After controlling over 70 percent of the ball in the second half, Orlando finished with 66.7 percent possession for the game. In addition, the Pride saw a passing accuracy - which has been one of the team’s strongest categories this year - of 82.57 percent. That number ranks as the second best passing accuracy by any team so far this year. Midfielder Camila continues to be the Pride’s strongest contributor in that category, and one of the keys to Orlando’s offense, with an 84.58 percent passing accuracy through seven games. Camila has two goals and two assists in her 628 minutes. After finishing the 2016 season at the bottom of the table, the Breakers used the offseason to rebuild, adding U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Rose Lavelle, New Zealand international Rosie White and defender Megan Oyster. Like the Pride, the Breakers will be looking to get back on track after going winless in all four of their May games. Last week Boston fell, 2-0, to Portland Thorns FC after the home side scored both of its goals in the opening five minutes. Just one minute in, the Thorns went ahead on an own goal then Armandine Henry made it a two-goal game in the fifth minute. Following Saturday’s match, the Pride have bye week for the FIFA window. Orlando will return to action on June 17, kicking off a home-and-home season with the Houston Dash. The Club first travels to BBVA Compass Stadium for a 8:30 p.m. ET match, then turning around to host the same side on June 24 at 4 p.m. at Orlando City Stadium. The latter match will be broadcast as the NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime. Tickets for all Pride home matches are available at orlando-pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
