(Gainesville, FL.) – Senior Delanie Gourley hurled program’s second ever post-season no-hitter in a 9-0 victory over Florida A&M in the opening round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Gourley also threw the program’s first ever no-hitter in the post-season against which was also against Florida A&M back in 2014.
Gourley (19-4) set the tone for the day from the circle in the first inning. The Lakeside, Calif. native picked up a two of her eight strikeouts in a three up and three down frame in the initial inning of play.
The Gators (51-6) struck first in the bottom of the inning thanks to Amanda Lorenz’s team-leading 10th home run of the season. Lorenz belted a ball over the wall in left field to give Florida a 1-0 lead.
Florida A&M reached base only once in the game via a full-count walk from Kenya Pereira to lead off the third inning. Gourley bounced back to record a pair of strikeouts and ended the frame on a ground out to Jaimie Hoover at third base.
The offense came alive in the bottom of the inning as Florida produced seven runs on just five hits. Janell Wheaton drove in Nicole DeWitt and Lily Mann on what was her first triple of the season.
Wheaton went on to score on a wild pitch during Aleshia Ocasio’s at-bat. Senior Chelsea Herndon followed up with another walk to load the bases for Justine McLean.
McLean ripped a two RBI single up the middle of the Lady Rattlers defense that allowed Hoover and Ocasio to score. Ocasio automatically was ruled safe due to an obstruction call at home plate.
Lorenz struck again with an RBI single for the Gators sixth run of the inning and Wheaton capped off the scoring with a SAC fly to center that scored McLean from third.
Florida went on to plate one more run in the contest in the fourth inning. Freshman Jordan Roberts blistered a double to the wall in left center field to score pinch runner Jacqui Switzer. Switzer pinch ran for Ocasio who reached via a single through the left side.

Opening statement…
"Good start for us today. I thought we came out ready and we had a good start in the first inning with that home run. Our bats were good, they were consistent and very poised, I thought the overall presence at the plate was good and when you can pitch the way Delanie [Gourley] pitched and change speeds it can be tough to square up, that’s a good formula for success. I’m happy and proud seeing her get out there and start us off the right way.” – Tim Walton
