Tallahassee, FL-Quarterback Sean Maguire opened up with an interception on the first drive of the spring game, which was returned for a touchdown by freshman Derwin James. Maguire was 6 for 10 in completions with 1 interception by the end of the first quarter.
After a shaky spring game, Maguire, who looks to be the definite starter for the Seminoles, Says, “We have a lot of work to do together over the summer.”
Maguire was able to regain composure in the second quarter, despite the rough start throwing for 124 yards. Dalvin Cook was able to put the Garnet on the board with 2 touchdowns of his own before the half.
Maguire ended the game converting 22 completions on 44 attempts with 2 interceptions. Overall, Maguire expressed how he had a great Spring and with extra work in the summer he should have great chemistry with all of his receivers.
Some top performers of the Garnet and Gold spring game include kicker Robert Aguayo who nailed a field goal through the uprights for 47 yards in the second quarter and also attempted a 64 yarder but fell just short.
“He usually hits those in practice but the rain had an impact weighing down the ball.” Said head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Mavin Saunders, Ermon Lane, and George Campbell had a great receiving day despite the rain with a combined 290 receiving yards.
Gold came out victorious with the final score of the Garnet and Gold Spring game being 38-17. With a very young group the Seminoles hope to put the missing pieces together and have another successful season.
The Florida State Seminoles begin their season Saturday, September 5th against the Texas State Bobcats in Tallahassee FL, at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.
