Tampa, FL- Jason Boltus threw 6 passing touchdowns to lead the Tampa Bay Storm to their first home win of the season as they defeated the New Orleans Voodoo 42-13 in front of an announced crowd of 9,122 at Amalie Arena Friday Night.
Boltus came out of the gates strong in the 1st quarter with a perfect four completions on four attempts, and a nine-yard touchdown to WR Julius Gregory.
The New Orleans Voodoo controlled the ball on offense for most of the 1st quarter possessing the ball for 11 min 14 sec opposed to the Storms 3 min 46 sec possession time while also scoring a TD of their own and putting a field goal through the uprights.
QB Jason Boltus was able to find veteran Storm WR T.T Toliver three times in the 2nd quarter. The two have been in sync all season and were able to connect for a huge 34 yard TD to give the Storm the lead. With the Tampa Bay Storm on top 14-13 the Voodoo got shut down on special teams trying to take the lead at the half with a field goal attempt that was blocked the Storm’s DL Frank Mays. This sent Tampa into the locker room with a 1-point lead at the half.
Going into the 2nd half, the Storm special teams unit was able to maintain dominance and force a fumble on the opening kickoff and recover.
Boltus wasn’t just done yet, in the 2nd half he tacked on 4 more passing TD’s. Boltus appeared to be getting in rhythm with all of his receivers spreading the ball well across the field. “We executed a lot better than we did a couple weeks ago.” said Boltus of the growth with his receivers.
While Boltus and the offense did their job, the Storm defense played exceptional as well, holding the Voodoo scoreless for the entire second half. Storm head coach Lawrence Samuels was satisfied with the overall performance of the team on all sides of the ball “ we still got some things we need to improve on, we’re just going to continue to get better” Samuels preached to the media postgame.
Boltus ended the night completing 19 of 29 passes and threw a staggering six touchdowns to lead the Tampa Bay Storm to a seamless victory at home against the Voodoo.
With the win, the Storm snap a one game losing streak and are now 2-2 on the season. They look to maintain their momentum as they head to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio where they will have a rematch of week one with the Gladiators. It will be the Storm seeking revenge after a 60-44 loss to the defending conference champs. Kickoff is set for 7pm ET.
