ORLANDO- The Orlando City Lions appeared well equipped as they shutout the LA Galaxy 4 to 0 in front of an announced crowd of 40,122, the 2nd largest attendance all season at the Orlando Citrus Bowl. The Galaxy have now lost 5 straight games and have not recorded a win since April 18th.
Orlando City played with great chemistry early on as their first goal in the 12th minute came off a headed assist from Shea to Avila to give the lions a 1-0 lead.
“We moved the ball quickly, I thought the first goal off the assist from Brek was absolutely fabulous” said head coach Adrian Heath.
The great team plays continued as Kaka found team-leading scorer Cyle Larin in the 34th minute on a fast break, which led to Larin’s 4th goal on the season giving Orlando City a 2-0 lead to go into halftime.
As we headed into the 2nd half there was no slowing down for the Lions on offense. Team Captain Kaka led the way after going down just right of the penalty box forcing a penalty kick. He would follow up by burying the penalty kick early in the 56th minute. “Today everything I tried I could get it” team captain Kaka mentioned. Kaka’s goal gave the lions a 3-0 lead.
While the Lions continued to sync well with each other, the astounding performance by young El Salvadorian midfielder Darwin Ceren did not go unnoticed. When asked about players’ performances Coach Heath stated “I actually thought Darwin Ceren was the best player on the field today.” Ceren’s great production led to his first MLS goal in the 73rd minute.
With the 4-0 shutout over the league defending champions, the lions look to take this encouraging win with them to Levi’s Stadium, Sunday May 24th as they travel to San Jose to take on the Quakes, who are currently 5-4-2.
