(June 13, 2016) - The current champions of the Euro, Spain, started defending their title with a victory 1-0 over the Czech Republic. Even though the Spanish were victorious the best player of the game was going to the Czech Republic goalkeeper, Petr Čech, that saved his team with 8 impressive saves throughout the match.
Spain came with a defeat in their last preparation game against Georgia (0-1), in what was called one of the most shameful defeats in the Spanish Soccer history. With many doubts on Spain's coach, Vicente Del Bosque, over his final list of the Euro leaving incredible players like Juan Mata (Manchester United FC ENG), Isco (Real Madrid CF ESP) and Saúl Ñiguez (Atletico Madrid-ESP) out of the Spanish team.
Spain played wonderfully against the Czech Republic creating up to 17 opportunities and controlling the possession of the ball. Spain showed that they did not want to repeat what happen in the last World Cup, and they wanted to retain the title.
Spain's goal came in the 87th minute of the game with a great team play. Iniesta found the space to send a cross to the box to his FC Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique to score the only goal of the game giving Spain their first 3 points of the tournament.
Spain will play against Turkey next Friday, June 17. While Czech Republic will play against Croatia on the same day.
