(June 11, 2016) - Switzerland defeats Albania 1-0 in a game that was special for the Xhaka family, with both brother Taulant and Granit, starring in the first ever Euro game where two brothers play against each other. Granit Xhaka, the new Arsenal man, was victorious thanks to a great goal from a header by Hoffenheim defender, Fabian Schär early in the game.
The Swiss dominated most of the game with Shaqiri and Mehmedi creating situations from the side while Granit Xhaka was the balance between attack and defense for the Swiss.
Albania played the first ever Euro game for the Balcanian nation and lost against Switzerland showing a great image, they lost their captain, Lorik Cana, in the 36th minute, giving the Swiss team more confidence. But in the second half, the Albanians gave an extra push creating several chances on Yann Sommer's goal. They could have drawn the game with a one on one opportunity that Colorado Rapids' midfielder Gashi missed after Sommer went out quickly saving the Albanian goal.
With this victory, the Swiss get their first 3 points of the tournament tying with France in the 1st place of Group "A". The action of Group "A" comes back next Wednesday, June 15, with Switzerland playing against Romania at 12 pm (ET) and France playing against Albania at 3 pm (ET).
The Euro continues tomorrow, June 12, with games from the Group "C" and "D", Poland will face the Northen Ireland at noon, Germany will play against Ukraine at 3 pm, and Turkey will play against Croatia earlier at 9 am.
