Lake Buena Vista FL- The Old Spice Classic is over and your new champions are …… The University of Memphis Tigers. Down by 10 at the half, the Tigers played great in the second half to upset No. 5 Oklahoma State. In the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 19th, Oklahoma State defeated Memphis 101-80 with All- American guard Marcus Smart scoring 39 points. Tonight Memphis shutdown Smart allowing him only 12 points and forcing 5 turnovers. Memphis' guards stepped up after the last meeting between these two teams by scoring 40 plus of the Tiger's 73 points. |
Memphis standout and Tournament MVP Shaq Goodwin showed up once again, scoring 17 points and grabbing 8 boards.
"After the Michigan State loss, I went to coach and said I'm going to do it your way. I'm two feet in and whatever you need me to do, I'm going to do it." said Shaq on his improvement from last season to now.

Oklahoma State struggled behind the 3 point line, shooting just 23 percent behind the arc. Backup Guard Phil Forte was the Cowboy's leading scorer with 19 points, but it wasn't enough to bring the team back. Memphis guards Chris Crawford, Joe Jackson, and Michael Dixon Jr each stepped up when Memphis needed a shot, with Crawford and Dixon Jr each hitting key three pointers. Joe Jackson also hit the key free throws the Tiger's needed to solidify their lead at the end of the second half. |
"I was happy for my guys. We got out butts whipped a week and a half ago and played back." said Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner.
The Final Score was 73-68 handing OSU it's first lost of the season. Memphis head back home to the Fedex Forum to take on Northwestern State on December 7th. They will begin conference play on December 31st against USF in Tampa, FL.
Oklahoma State heads back home to take on South Carolina at Gallagher-Iba Arena on December 6th. They open up conference play January 4th on the road against Kansas State.
