LAKE BUENA VISTA — Johnny O’Bryant III had 17 points and 8 rebounds to go along with 3 assists , as the LSU Tigers defeated the Butler Bulldogs 70-68 in overtime on Sunday to claim third-place in the Old Spice Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. O’Bryant lead the Tigers in scoring but the biggest point of the game were made by guard Anthony Hickey, who hit a game-tying 3-pointer in the final couple seconds of regulation time. Hickey was held scoreless up until that 3-pointer. |
"I don't really look at numbers," said Hickey after the game. "I just do whatever it takes to win."
Hickey’s game-tying basket came after Butler’s Alex Barlow hit a three-pointer from the wing to give the Bulldogs a 59-56 lead with a little over 10 seconds remaining. The Tigers used overtime as an opportunity to regroup and went on to get the win over Butler 70-68, improving their record to 52.
LSU used an all-around team effort to best Butler, as the Tigers had five players with at least 12 points.
The Bulldogs record falls to 5-2 after taking two close losses during the tournament.
LSU will now prepare to play Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 14, while Butler will play North Dakota next on Saturday.
