MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men’s golf team jumped up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for fourth place in the final day of competition of the Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course
The Badgers (+6, 288-295-287=870) managed to shoot its best round of the tournament and move from sixth place after the second round to a tie for fourth out of the 13-team field.
“Conditions were difficult every day, we had winds and rain but I’m actually really glad it was difficult,” UW head coach Michael Burcin said. “It gave everyone, especially the younger guys on the team, a picture of what we’re going to deal with the rest of the year. We’re excited because they handled the tough conditions pretty well so it gives us a lot to build on and a lot to be excited about.”
Junior Eddie Wajda (73-70-71=214) ended the tournament by shooting 1-under to finish tied for eighth. After the Brookfield, Wisconsin, native made headlines on Monday for sinking a hole in one on the eighth hole, Wajda rode his success into the final round to lead the Badgers.
Sophomore Jordan Hahn registered his best round of the tournament with a 1-under performance to tie for 23rd place. At 4-over, senior Ben Skogen (70-75-75=220) captured 26th place, while junior Johnny Decker (73-75-73=221) finished one stroke behind to tie for 27th place after shooting 1-over in the final round. In his first tournament as a Badger, freshman Nick Robinson (72-80-72=224) shot an even par 72 to finish tied for 41st.
Competing as an individual, freshman Pete Kuhl (73-77-72=222) ended the tournament with his best round by shooting an even par 72 to move him into a tie for 32nd place. Sophomore Brett Robinson (78-76-77=231) finished 15-over to tie for 64th, while junior Michael Abrahamson (80-83-73=236) shot 1-over in the final round to jump up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 75th place. Senior Tommy Schofield (76-85-76=237) finished one stroke behind after netting a 4-over 76 to capture 78th place.
Iowa State (-12, 286-288-278=852) took home the team title, finishing 10 strokes ahead of second-place Nevada (-2, 292-285-285=862). Wofford claimed third place after finishing 5-over, just one stroke ahead of Wisconsin, Marquette (289-291-290=870) and Illinois State (286-296-288=870). Andrew Novak of Wofford claimed the individual crown after finishing 8-under.
Up next, the Badgers hit the road to compete in the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove in College Grove, Tennessee from Sunday toTuesday.
“We’re really fired up. I told the guys that this was the best we’ve played in our home event since we started the event up again a few years ago,” Burcin said. “I’m extremely, extremely encouraged. I think it’s a good mix of older kids and younger kids so I’m excited to get to Tennessee.”

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Wisconsin women’s golf team surged four spots with a stellar final round to claim fourth place at the 11-team Minnesota Invitational. The Badgers shot the third-lowest round of the day to end the tournament at 28-over (306-293-293=892).
“I’m really proud of how we played today and how we competed the way we did,” UW head coach Todd Oehrlein said. “I thought after a so-so first round yesterday, the composure and maturity they showed in how they played in the afternoon was a really positive sign. I think they came out with that same mindset today of just competing throughout the whole round.”
Finishing eighth, senior Brooke Ferrell (73-70-76=219) was the Badgers’ top golfer of the tournament. The Big Ten preseason honoree netted a 3-over 219 and was just four strokes off the lead.
Junior Gabby Curtis (76-75-72=223) finished tied for 13th place after shooting an even par 72 in the third round. Sophomore Tess Hackworthy (78-74-72=224) also concluded the tournament with her best round by shooting 72 and finish in a tie for 17th place at 8-over.
At 17-over, sophomore Nat Zeng (79-74-80=233) finished tied for 44th. Junior Becky Klongland’s (80-83-73=236) 1-over 73 in the third round propelled her up the players’ leaderboard to finish in a tie for 51st.
Freshman Eloise Healey (79-85-80=244), who competed as an individual, finished in 58th place with a 28-over 244.
At 18-over, Furman (299-297-286=882) and Purdue (293-298-291=882) shared the tournament crown. Third-place Texas (296-294-301) finished just one stroke ahead of the Badgers.
Up next, the Badgers travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete in the East-West Match Play Challenge from Sunday to Tuesday.
“When you get into competition and you get to see the reward of the things you’ve been working on, other areas of your game get exposed and it helps shape plans for improvement and development going forward,” Oehrlein said. “We’ll try to build on the things that we did really well and we’ll address the shortcomings or the areas where we stumbled.”
