MADISON, Wis. – Elan Koenig has played a vital role in the Wisconsin men’s soccer backline, helping the defense to eight shutouts this season, but on Sunday he went above and beyond. The redshirt freshman defender helped shut out Ohio State, 3-0, in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinal and scored his first career goal, which earned him a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.
Koenig has started and played in all 17 games this season and has compiled more than 1400 minutes of playing time. In addition to his one goal, Koenig has logged one assist and six shots on the season.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Koenig was recently named to the All-Big Ten Conference Freshman Team.
Koenig and the Badgers are set to face Indiana on Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT in Westfield, Indiana at Grand Park for the semifinal game of the Big Ten Tournament. The match will be aired live on the Big Ten Network and streamed live on BTN2Go.
