Oviedo, FL- Tulane’s Green Wave crashed in the 3rd inning with 6 hits that’s brought in a total of 5 runs to score. UCF charged on searching for a run but came up short not having any luck getting more than 3 hits the entire game. The tough defense and pitching from Tulane kept UCF scoreless as the Knights fell 6-0, completing the 3 game sweep for the Greenwave.
The first two innings of the game were quiet from both teams. Several quick outs from UCF and Tulane, as all the outs came from fly outs, ground outs, and strikeouts. UCF and Tulane each ended the 1st with one man left on base not able to bring Jake Rogers of Tulane and Ryan Crile of UCF, in from their singles. In the 2nd inning, Hunter Hope for Tulane managed to get another single up the middle, but was left stranded after the UCF defense made three outs.
The silence ended when Tulane exploded in the 3rd inning scoring a total of 5 runs. The top of the 3rd started with a single from Stephen Alemais, that went through the left side. The hits continued when Rogers and Grant Witherspoon singled up the middle and advanced Alemais to score the first run of the game. Runs continued to piled on after Jeremy Montalbano, singled to the left-center field gap, Hunter Williams singled through the left side, and Jarret DeHart, doubled down the right field line. The streak of hits ended as UCF finally found a way to get three outs, leaving Tulane with two men on leading 5-0.
Going into the Bottom of the 3rd UCF looked to respond but was kept to only one hit as Tulane’s tough pitching and defense continued to play cohesively, shutting UCF down. In the 4th Tulane tacked on another run making the score 6-0 with singles from Lex Kaplan to first base and Montalbano down the left field line.
After an extensive Green Wave lead through the first 6 innings, UCF still remained scoreless not being able to get anything started. Tough pitching from Alex Massey limited UCF to only a total of 3 hits. Zeros continued to be put up across the board as Tulane made out after out through the 5th inning on through the 9th
Head coach Terry Rooney’s response after game 3 , “Bottom line is every team has a bad weekend, it's baseball. You have to forget about it and get back to work. It's all how you respond to it and we have to respond and get ready for next weekend in Tampa.”
