Tuesday, February 21st Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Edmonton Oilers in Amalie Arena at 7:30 pm. The Bolts have 5 games left in their season, and they are trying to receive every point possible for the playoffs. The Bolts and the New Jersey Devils are tied for 7th place in the Wild Card Standings with 60 points. Coming into the game Tuesday the Bolts are on a four-game home stand and need every point they can to reach the playoffs. The visiting Edmonton Oilers are having a tremendous season! The Oilers sit 2nd place in the Pacific Division with 72 points and are on a 3-game winning streak. The Bolts are fighting for their playoff chances, and the Oilers have something to prove that they are a championship contender. This game will be a battle, and we will find out who want’s it more.
Edmonton Corner: The Oilers have something to prove to the NHL this year that they are a championship contender. The Oilers have not made the playoffs since they played against the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Finals during the 2005-06 season. It has been a nightmare for the Oilers. Drafting so many high young talented prospects through the years and losing key players and key coaches that the Oilers have had around for a long time, now they are off winning Stanley Cups for other teams and not for the Edmonton Oilers. Ten years without being in the playoffs and the Oilers are back and ready to make some noise.
The Young Edmonton Captain: At 20 years old the 2015 1st overall pick for the Edmonton Oilers is unbelievable. Coming into this first season Connor McDavid played 59 games in his first year in the NHL as a rookie. His rookie year he scored 20 goals and was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy for the outstanding rookie coming into the league for his 1st year as a pro. He has turned into a superstar at 20 years old and his 2nd season in the NHL. This kid is only going to get better as time goes on. This kid is going to win a Stanley Cup someday, and I want to see that happen for this talented kid that puts in so much work for him for his team. Look out for the young Captain when they take on the Bolts Tuesday night!
Tampa Bay finds a way to win: Sunday, February 19th the Bolts took on the Colorado Avalanche. Bolts were in the lead going into the 3rd period then in a blink of an eye with only 40 seconds left to play in the third period the Avalanche tied the game at 2 apiece sending the game into overtime. Frustrated may be the word to describe how Bolt fans were feeling that night. With the question being asked how do you give up a 2-0 lead in 40 seconds? The Avalanche was able to get their point to win the game 3-2.
The Bolts offense can score big time goals in any moment of the game. It is just their defense and goaltending that needs to step up their game Tuesday when they face up against a very high skilled team like the Edmonton Oilers. For the Bolts to win on Tuesday, they will need their entire team not to let up, and they will need the offense to make the big plays like they have done in previous games this season. The Bolts have two big points on the line and their season is on life support, they will have to fight until the final whistle. The question remains for them; do they want it or not? We will find out Tuesday.
Catch the Tampa Bay Lightning play inside Amalie Arena at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, February 21st. It will be live on Fox Sports Sun; you can also listen to the game on Lightning Radio 970 WFLA.
