CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will have players in action from coast to coast this weekend.
Four players are set to make the drive up to Tampa, Fla., for the Bedford Cup, held at USF. Another quartet of Hurricanes will fly west for the prestigious Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Freshmen Dominika Paterova and Estela Perez-Somarriba will be joined by sophomores Ana Madcur, ranked No. 117, and Clara Tanielian at the Bedford Cup. Held Friday through Sunday, the tournament features players from 10 Division I schools in the state of Florida.
The Hurricanes were dominant at the 2015 Bedford Cup. Yolimar Ogando won the A Main Draw in both singles and doubles, while Madcur was the singles runner-up and Tanielian won the Singles A Back Draw. All four semifinalists in the Singles A Main Draw were Hurricanes, too.
Draws for the Bedford Cup are not yet available, but information on the tournament is available on the event page HERE, including a link to the live stats, which can be found HERE.
Redshirt senior Maci Epstein and junior Silvia Fuentes are in the pre-qualifying singles draw of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships and will begin play Saturday.
Ogando, a redshirt sophomore ranked No. 32, is slotted for the qualifying singles draw and opens action Oct. 4, while junior Sinead Lohan is a main draw singles selection and will start competition Oct. 6. Overall, the tournament runs from Oct. 1-9, with a day off on Oct. 3 before the qualifying round begins.
Last year, Lohan, who is currently ranked fifth in the nation, became the second player in program history to reach the semifinals of the elite tournament and just the first to advance to the finals.
Fuentes will start the action for the Hurricanes in the Golden State, facing Old Dominion’s Borislava Botusharova Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET. Epstein then meets Elyse Hamlin of Duke at 3:15 p.m.
All tournament information can be found on the ITA event page HERE. Premium live video for main draw matches will be available HERE.
