Saturday, February 11, The unranked Ohio State Buckeyes and the #21 ranked Maryland Terrapins will go head to head in a Big 10 matchup in College Park, Maryland.
The Buckeyes and Terrapins are tied 5-5 in the series matchup. The two teams competed just last week in Columbus, Ohio in which the Terrapins came away with a 77-71 win. The Buckeyes will look to redeem themselves this Saturday on the road.
The Ohio State Buckeyes currently have an overall record of 15-10 and conference record of 5-7. The team hasn’t had too tough of a non-conference schedule which has added to their list of wins. However, they have suffered losses against conference opponents and other higher ranked teams.
A notable player to look out for from Ohio State is number 1, Jae’Sean Tate. This junior is a threat on the court and has led his team in scoring. Jae’Sean averages about 14.4 points per game and has a 55.4 field goal percentage. Marc Loving, another Big Ten Honorable mention for the Buckeyes is also a player to watch out for. Redshirt junior and Maryland native Kam Williams will also be a valuable piece in this weekend’s game. Williams scored 23 points over Rutgers in their previous game. Ohio State’s Trevor Thompson and Tate will have to be on their A-game and provide a strong presence in the paint.
The Maryland Terrapins with a 20-4 overall record and a conference record of 8-3 are off to a strong start this season and are favored to win this matchup the second time around. However, Maryland is going into this weekend with a 2 game losing streak against Purdue and Penn State. If Maryland hopes to beat Ohio State, they will need to take control of the game from start to finish. Maryland’s Melo Trimble who leads the Terps in points, averages about 16.9 a game and 43.6 field goal percentage. Justin Jackson, their big man down below will need to come out strong as well. The freshmen forward recorded his second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds the last time he faced off against Ohio State.
If Maryland intends on staying in the AP Top 25, they will need to seal the deal against their conference opponent, Ohio State. The Terps will look to drive to the hoop on every play and take advantage of the Buckeyes mistakes. Ohio State turned the ball over 15 times in their previous game against Rutgers.
On the other hand, with Maryland coming into this game on a 2 game losing streak, the Buckeyes have a great chance to keep their losing streak going. The Buckeyes who are currently ranked 9th in their conference are focused on securing wins in their last few conference games as March approaches.
Ohio State may be the underdogs, but they are not a team to count out. Expect a close game down to the last second and some great basketball from both programs.
Tune in this Saturday, February 11, 4 pm on ESPN, as the #21 Maryland Terrapins and The Ohio State Buckeyes go head to head in what’s to be an eventful Big 10 match-up!
