The magic of Super Bowl LI must still be lingering in the air in Houston, Texas, as the University of Houston men's basketball team cruised to their fourth straight win (17-7, 8-4 American) against Tulane, 91-62 Wednesday. Cougar's senior guard Damyean Dotson scored a career high 32 points. Dotson shot 12 of 16 from the floor and an impressive six of seven from the three-point line. Houston's Rob Gray Jr. added 18 points, while Armoni Brooks scored a solid 10 points and a team leading seven rebounds.
The Cougars hit the road to take on the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, Saturday at 5pm CST at the Reynolds Center. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season. The first meeting was a nail biter, with Houston barely winning, 64-61.
Tulsa is mired in a three game losing streak right now. They lost to Memphis,66-44 on Tuesday night. The 44 points that Tulsa scored against Memphis, were the fewest points they've scored since a 2015 loss to Conneticut. Tulsa has a 12-11 record and are 6-5 in conference play so a win against Houston would be huge for Tulsa.
In the first meeting between these two teams, Dotson scored 18 points (including four three pointers) and Galen Robinson made two free throws and blocked a potential game tying three-pointer to beat the Hurricanes. The game featured 14 ties and eight lead changes..
Judging off of the first meeting between these two teams, we should be in for an entertaining game. The game can be seen on ESPNU and heard on KPRC 950 AM.
