Boulder, CO - The Colorado Buffs are set to kick off the season this Friday night against the Colorado State Rams at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. This year’s Rocky Mountain Showdown will mark the 89th matchup between the in-state rivals and although the Buffs delivered a 44-7 pummeling to the Rams last season, both teams expect a much closer battle this year.
The Buffs will look to match the success of last season in which they posted a record of 10 wins and 4 losses and a first-place finish in the Pac-12 South Division. The first challenge will come in the form of an explosive Rams’ offense, led by Senior Quarter Back, Nick Stevens, and supported by Wide Receiver, Michael Gallup. The Buffs are more than prepared with the shutdown Sophomore Cornerback, Isaiah Oliver, leading the secondary.
The main emphasis on this Friday’s season opener for the Buffs will be to get their offense firing early and getting points on the board before the Rams. Because the Rams already have a game under their belts in 2017 with a 58-27 thrashing against Oregon State, it is dire that the Buffs get off to a quick start and allow their younger and less experienced players settle in to the flow of the game. If the Buffs can execute their game-plan, Head Coach Mike Macintyre is confident that they will hold a lead throughout rather than fighting from behind.
The most experience for the Buffs’ lie within their offense as they have 3 senior receivers including proven wideout, Shay Fields. This provides a useful advantage for Sophomore Quarterback, Steven Montez, who is hopeful to expand on flashes of brilliance from the 2016 season.
The Buffs are approaching this Friday night not only to take home a victory, but to prove to college football fans that their formidable squad from last season has carried over into 2017. The Pac-12 will certainly be a competitive division with powerhouse football programs across the board, including the University of Southern California, University of Washington, and Stanford University.
Friday night will be the first test for this promising Buffs’ football team and they are not ready to take the Rams’ dangerous offense lightly. The game will start at 6:00 pm Mountain Daylight Time. Approximately 70,000 fans are expected to be in attendance but if you are not able to attend and would still like to watch the Rocky Mountain Showdown, it will be shown on the Pac-12 network.
