Daytona, FL - Friday the drivers and cars of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will kickoff their season as they duel it out in the 4 hour BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona. Thursday afternoon all the cars took to the track for qualifying.
2016 ST Class Champion Spencer Pumpelly's qualifying time of 1.55.136 in the #28 RS1 Porche Cayman GT4 MR in the GS class has earned their team the front spot for Friday's race. Pumpelly's teammate this week is 2017 GS Class Champion Dillon Machavern. In the TCR Class, the top 6 places were owned by Audi RS3 LMS TCR's. In first was Kumo Wittmer in the #74 Compass Racing Audi recording a time of 2:00.550, that time was good enough for the 26th overall starting position in Fridays BMW Endurance Challenge. This was better than 3 of the GS cars. Wittmer is teamed up with Rodrigo Sales.
ST is the third and final class in the BMW Endurance Challenge. The leader of the class was claimed by Devin Jones in the #81 BimmerWorld Racing BMW 328i, tallying a time of 2:04.217. This time has his and teammate Nick Galante starting in the 36th overall position ahead of all other five ST Class teams.
