Greensboro NC – Kendrick Lamar has become one of Hip Hop’s most influential rappers of all time. Kendrick first stepped on the scene in 2003 but recently became more popular in 2010. He has a joint contract with Aftermath and Interscope Records and is also a member of the West Coast hip hop group Black Hippy. Kendrick Lamar hails from Compton, California and brings that west coast style back to hip hop like MC’s Dr Dre, Snoop Dog (Snoop Lion) and Tupac Shakur.
His recent challenge to various artists in Big Sean’s Control has caused all kinds of controversy in the rap game; Lamar called out his competition and told them to step their game up. “And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you niggas, tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas they dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I'm tryna raise the bar high…”
A couple of MCs responded such as Drake and Meek Millz. But if they didn’t hear him the first time they most definitely heard him in the 2013 BET awards cypher which sent even more waves to thru the industry then before. “And nothing been the same since they cut 'Control' and tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes / HA HA, jokes on you! High-five!" Kendrick Lamar challenged the new and upcoming rappers to make real hip hop and take it back to the way it was when Tupac and Biggie were alive. Thanks to Kendrick we will have less money, cars, and women raps and more real hip hop.
