The Arizona Wildcats travel to Alaska Airlines Arena to face the Washington Huskies on Saturday, February 18th at 6 pm MST. However, the Wildcats may be doing so short-handed. Arizona defeated Washington State on the road 78-59 at Beasley Stadium. However, they lost redshirt senior guard Kadeem Allen and junior center Dusan Ristic in the process. Allen dislocated his right pinky finger at practice Tuesday, while Ristic suffered a left knee sprain in the first half against Washington State. Ristic did not return from his injury and was replaced by freshman forward Lauri Markkanen who had 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Allen was replaced by Parker Jackson-Cartwright who has 20 points on 5- for- 7 shooting. Arizona will look to make this game their 4th consecutive win, with seven healthy scholarship players active.
Arizona moved on to 24-3 (13-1 Pac-12) with their win over the Washington State Cougars Thursday, February 16th. If Allen misses time Saturday, the Wildcats may have to find another defender to stop a potential top pick in 2017 NBA Draft. Wildcats' head coach Sean Milles has said that Allen is the best defender he has had in the last 8 years. There is still a possibility you could see Allen on the court playing with his team Saturday.
Huskies freshman guard Markelle Fultz is back for the Huskies, but they suffered an 83-81 loss to Arizona State Sun Devils. After the close loss to the Sun Devils, the Huskies dropped to 9-17 (2-12 Pac-12). Allen and the Wildcats held Fultz to 8 of 23 from the field last time the Wildcats and Huskies faced each other. We will see if the Wildcats can do it again. Fultz entered that game averaging 23 points per game. He finished with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Wildcats won 77-66.
Washington will enter Saturday’s game on an 8 game losing streak. Huskies’ last win came against Colorado at home 85-83. This game was played on January 19th. Saturday will be the Huskies’ last home game of the season. While this season looks to be pretty much over for the Huskies, they have much to look forward to next season as Michael Porter Jr. a 5-star 2017 prospect committed to Washington. Porter will be joined by Jaylen Nowell, a four-star guard out of Garfield High and Blake Harris, a three-star guard from North Carolina in the 2017 Washington recruiting class. Porter's father Michael Porter Sr. was hired as Washington's assistant coach on May 6. Porter's younger brother Jontay Porter who is a 2018 recruit, has also verbally committed to the Huskies. Porter has been coached by former Washington Huskie and former NBA Star Brandon Roy.
The Wildcats still have some basketball to focus on as they will be dancing in the March Madness Tournament, and are favorites to win the Pac-12. Oregon is right behind them at 12-2 (23-4 Pac-12). The Wildcat have won 7 of their last 8 games with their last loss coming from Oregon 85-58 on the road on February 4th. The Wildcats will not face the Ducks again in the regular season. However, these two teams could face off in the Pac-12 Tournament.
With Saturday being the Huskies’ last home game of the season you can expect them to put up a fight. Expect a good basketball game between the Washington Huskies and the Arizona Wildcats! This game will be live on ESPN2 at 6 pm MST Saturday, February 18th.
