Fontana, CA - Pole winner Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 48 won stage 1 while Kyle Busch in the No. 18 was not that far behind coming in second. Both cars went back and forth exchanging the only lead change in the stage. Joey Logano in the no. 22 rounded out the top three.
There was only one caution as Kyle Larson in the No. 42 and Kevin Harvick in the No. 4 bumped cars causing Harvick to hit the wall. Luckily his car wasn’t that badly damaged and was able to make it back on the field only being two laps down. Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 started 33rd and ended the first stage in 6th.
