Hampton, GA- In his second ever truck series pole in Atlanta, Kyle Busch of the No. 4 Cessna Toyota would post the fastest lap time of 30.844 seconds to start on the pole for Saturday afternoon’s Active Pest Control 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Two rounds of qualifying saw 34 drivers try and make the field of 32 for Saturday’s race. With only 12 drivers able to make the second and final round of qualifiers, the first round would see the 13th through the 32nd drivers eliminated, with their placement for Saturday’s race to be determined by their fastest lap times.
Drivers Tim Veins of the No. 74 Chevrolet and Travis Kvapil of the No. 50 Motorsports Safety Group/Clyde May’s Chevrolet would finish in the final two spots of the 34 and fail to qualify.
The second and final round of qualifying would see a close finish, as Matt Crafton of the No. 88 Rip it/Menards Ford would be narrowly beaten by Kyle Busch’s time, missing the pole by just a tenth of a second with a lap time of 30.934 seconds.
Kyle Busch will look to replicate the finish of his last truck series pole in Atlanta, where he would go on to win the race.
