Boston College is headed to the concrete jungle where dreams are made of, on Dec. 27, the Eagles will take on Iowa at Yankee Stadium in the Pinstripe Bowl.
“Real exciting day today. Have an opportunity to play in the Pinstripe Bowl against Iowa. Just a great opportunity for our football program, for our fans, for our alumni. That's our home base footprint for us. Part of our footprint includes New Jersey, New York. It's huge for us in recruiting,” Boston College head coach Steve Addazio said at the school’s press conference after the announcement.
The Eagles (7-5, 4-4 ACC) are playing in their fourth bowl in five years under Addazio. They will be facing a member of the B1G conference for the second straight year, BC defeated Maryland 36-30 in the Quick Lane Bowl last season. Boston College won five of their last six games to become bowl eligible.
Iowa (7-5, 4-5 B1G) is making their fifth straight bowl appearance losing 30-3 to Florida last year in the Outback Bowl. The Hawkeyes are coming off a regular season that saw them upset Ohio State 55-24 and are credited with keeping the Buckeyes out of the College Football Playoff.
“You're talking about two great conferences and having a chance to play a great program like Iowa, Kirk Ferentz I've known for a long time, just an established, phenomenal football coach who has built a great football program. That's a prideful, classy football program that's in a proud conference,” Addazzio said of the Hawkeyes.
The Pinstripe Bowl will be the first ever meeting between the two schools from Power-5 conferences. The Eagles will be making their second trip to Yankee Stadium and Iowa making their first. Boston College is 14-11 all-time in bowl games, and the Hawkeyes are 14-15-1.
Kickoff is set for the Pinstripe Bowl at 5:15 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
