Bristol, TN- Kyle Busch continued his week of dominance at Bristol Motor Speedway Friday evening, winning the 25th annual Food City 300 leading 186 of the 300 laps. It's his 9th win at Bristol in 25 races at the track. Here's how it all went down at the World's Fastest Half-Mile!
Kyle Busch led the pack from the pole to start the race. On lap 8, Mike Harmon in the #74 Mike Harmon Racing Dodge was the first lap victim of the night. Then on lap 10, David Starr in the #99 Whataburger Chevrolet hit the wall in turn two, sending him back behind the wall.
After the caution, Justin Allgaier in the #7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet was able to get by Busch on lap 16 for our first lead change of the race. Then on lap 24, Ryan Reed and Aric Almirola get into each other and slam into the wall as they went into turn 3, bringing out our 2nd caution of the race.
Kyle Busch was able to get past Allgaier on lap 32 to regain the lead. Then just 7 laps later, we saw our 3rd caution of the night with Ryan Reed cutting down his left front tire, which caused him to slam into the wall, ending his day.
After the 3 quick cautions we had green flag racing throughout the rest of stage 1. As the stage came to an end, it was Kyle Busch out in front still with just 20 cars left on the lead lap.
During the end of the stage pit stops, Kyle Busch in the #18 was caught speeding on pit road, which forced him to start at the back of the pack on the restart. This gave Allgaier the lead on the restart.
Lap 125 we saw our 5th caution of the day come out as Brandon Jones cut down both left side tires.
Lap 149, Daniel Suarez takes the lead, but shortly after on lap 156, Kyle Busch regained the lead. That came just 59 laps after being forced to start at the back of the pack after his speeding penalty in 29th place.
Busch would then capture the stage 2 victory as he refused to be denied. After pit stops, Daniel Suarez in the #20 Juniper Toyota was out in front as they got ready to start he final stage of the race.
Elliott Sadler took his first lead of the race on lap 187 as he made the pass on Suarez. Then on lap 202, Kyle Busch made the pass on Sadler to regain the lead once again.
On lap 218 another caution came out as the 78 of Tommy Martins got into the wall. After the caution it was still Kyle Busch out in front.
The next caution didn’t come out until just 16 laps to go as Brendan Gaughan and Jeff Burton get into each other coming out of turn 4. This would make it interesting briefly. However, on the restart, Busch drove away and sealed the deal with a win in the Food City 300!
