Orlando, FL - Friday afternoon was an eventful day for both Georgia State University and Western Kentucky University, ahead of their matchup in the 2017 AutoNation Cure Bowl.
Both the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Georgia State Panthers faced off to see which team could pack 10,000 meals first for the charity Feeding Children Everywhere. Feeding Children Everywhere is a nonprofit that is committed to providing healthy meals to those in need. They are devoted to doing so in a sustainable way while ensuring people’s contributions are making their desired impact.
The event started around 2:00 P.M. EST at Universal’s Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and the two teams were fired up to see who could pack 10,000 meals the quickest. The event brought out the competitive nature of the players on both Georgia State and Western Kentucky. Both sides fed off of each other which made the event that much more special for all the parties involved.
Both the Panthers and Hilltoppers came firing out of the gate, and it seemed as if it would a be neck and neck competition. Although, this would not be the case because Georgia State slowly started to pull away from the Hilltoppers by taking a two-box lead early on.
The lead from the Panthers forced Western Kentucky to pick up their pace which turned up the intensity in the ballroom to 11. WKU never could fully catch up with Georgia State’s blistering speed, and eventually, the Panthers hit the 10,000-meal mark about three boxes ahead of the Hilltoppers.
“I don’t have the official time,” said Pete Regules, who is on the Orlando Sports Advisory Board. “But we packed 20,000 meals faster than ever!”
If Saturday’s game follows the same path as the friendly food packing competition than we are all in for a very close and entertaining contest.
The AutoNation Cure Bowl kicks off today from Camping World Stadium at 2:30 P.M. EST
