Long Beach State and Oregon State were both coming off losses in Fridays first round of the Advocare Invitational. Additionally, Long Beach State and Oregon State had previously seen each other once this year in a game that saw Oregon State coming away with the win by 8. Saturday however, the 49ners would get the best of the Beavers in a thriller that came down tp the final seconds.
Starting the second-round game Long Beach State came out hot and went on a 9-3 run. However, Oregon would quickly get back into it tying the game. After that, no team could get a grasp on the game trading baskets until Gabe Levin hit a three that helped Long Beach State extend their lead to 8. After a timeout, just under four minutes the Beavers were able to cut into the lead and by the end of the half they were able to tie the game at 29 a piece. Gabe Levin lead the way in the first half for the 49ers with 7 points as Tres Tinkle was the leading scorer for the Beavers with 9.
Out of the second half Oregon State did not score until the 17:44 mark when Thompson (Who is Thompson? You never introduce him.) broke the drought with a made free throw that helped Oregon State get the offense going scoring the next 8 points of the game. This would help the Beavers open up a 41-36 lead with 14 minutes to play in the second half.
However, Long Beach State would not let up, keeping the game close throughout the second , and then with 5:36 left to play, Long Beach had tied the game up at 55. Both teams fought hard but with 2:17 left Long Beach State gained a 5-point lead and would not give it up as they take this game 74-69
Long Beach state was led by Gabe Levin and Deishaun Booker who both scored 14 points while Booker also had 12 assists. Oregon State’s leading scorer was Stephen Thompson Jr. who scored 24 points. Long Beach State will now await the winner of Nebraska vs. Marist.
