RIO DE JANERIO – Former Florida State diving standout Katrina Young made her debut for the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday in the prelims of the 10m platform.
Young posted a tally of 313.85, finishing in 12th place, advancing her into the semifinal, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday. The top 12 from the round will dive in the final at 3 p.m. later that day.
The Shoreline, Wash. native started off slow on one of her better dives - front 3.5 somersault, scoring 49.50. But as the round went on, Young settled in, scoring tallies of 64.35, 73.60 and 72.00 on her middle three dives. She closed out the round with a 54.40 on her back twister for a total of 313.85.
“I’m really pleased with (my list). I was a little bit over on a couple dives, but I had a lot of adrenaline and I had to reel it in a little bit. I was so excited to be on that platform representing the U.S.,” Young said. “I did what I needed to do to get back here tomorrow morning, so I’m happy.”
