Orlando, FL- The second game of the semi-final matchup put Team USA against the Netherlands. Team USA came out strong out of the gate, rolling to a 19 – 0 start, putting the Netherlands in a bind. Strong teamwork and passing was the key, as every member of Team USA was met with a pass or shot. Fundamental basketball was displayed by both teams, from setting screens, to pick and rolls. A key difference in the game was USA’s definitive height advantage, making it hard to stop their offense.
Team USA also to played fullcourt trapping defense. At the half, USA boasted a 22-point lead (26 – 4). This was in due part of the ability of team USA’s captain #5 Anthony McDaniel, to find the open man and run transition in space was pivotal during the game.
This meant that Netherlands would have to come out with a fire in their eyes if they would have any chance of a comeback in the second half.
In the second half, they did not let the deficit lower their spirits, nor effort. They played tough and physical, realizing that they needed to get back into the game.
The Netherlands used physicality to hold the US at bay in the second half but the lead was insurmountable. This kept the US from scoring until 8:38 in the second half.
USA called timeout to regroup and then went on a 14 – 0 run to put the game away. The final score was Team USA 42 – Team Netherlands 9
With the win, USA moves on to face Great Britain for the Gold. Netherlands will face Denmark for the Bronze Medal.
