On a sunny, chilly afternoon here in Charleston, at TD Arena, in the first game, of the final day, of the Charleston Classic tournament, the Boise State University Broncos have defeated the Western Michigan Broncos, 91-70. It was a sloppy, slow game to start but as the game went on, Boise State picked up the pace and dominated the second half.
In first half, it was slow going for both teams as both struggled to make shots. With five minutes into the game, both teams had each only scored four points. At the end of the half, Boise State seemed to improve more quickly than Western Michigan did on making their shots, as they led Western Michigan 39-35.
Boise State was led by guard Chandler Hutchison, who led all scorers with 10 points. He also led Boise State in rebounding with nine. Forward Nick Duncan added nine points on 3 of 6 shooting and guard Paris Austin contributed eight points, five rebounds and led the team in assists with four. While Boise State led, they struggled with turnovers as they committed 10 in the first half.
Western Michigan was led by forward Brandon Johnson, who had eight points in the first half. Guard Thomas Wilder had seven points and center Drake LaMont added six points. While Western Michigan only committed half as many turnovers as Boise State did, they were outrebounded by Boise State 22 to 14. Boise State seemed to be under the basket on every play.
In the second half, Boise State was on fire shooting the ball. They scored 51 points in the second half compared to 35 from Western Michigan. Boise State had four players score in double-digits for the game. They were led by Hutchison, who finished with a double-double. He led all scorers with 20 points and led Boise State in rebounding with 12. Austin added 17 points, Duncan had 15 points and guard Justinian Jessup contributed 12 points. Austin led the team in assists with seven. Boise State outrebounded Western Michigan 41-26.
Western Michigan was led by Wilder who led the team in scoring with 14 points. LaMont added 12 points and he led the team in rebounds with five. Western Michigan struggled to find their shot all night as they only completed 37% of their attempted shots, compared to Boise State, who completed 59% of their shots.
Boise State will return home, to Taco Bell Arena, to face the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Friday, November 25th at 9PM MST. Western Michigan will return home, to University Arena in Read Fieldhouse, to the face the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Saturday, November 26th at 2PM EST.
