Mexico defeated Uruguay 3-1, with an excellent performance by both teams, one red card for each team and two late goals for Mexico. With this victory, Mexico climbs to the top of the Group “C” with Venezuela behind.
Early in the 3rd minute of the game Mexico took the lead with an own goal by Alvaro Pereira, who was trying to deflect the cross by Jesus Corona, but unfortunately, the ball ended up in his net. The game became worse for Uruguay in the 44th minute of the match when Matias Vecino received his 2nd yellow card and was sent off leaving Uruguay with ten men.
During the second half, Uruguay took control of the game and created several clear chance that was not well finished by Diego Rolan. But in the 72nd minute of the match, Andres Guardado was sent off, and a free kick was awarded to the Uruguayan side, with this free kick Uruguay equalized the game with a header by Diego Godin.
In the last minutes of the match, Mexico pushed forward with Hirving Lozano and Raul Jimenez creating several chances, and they got the 2nd goal in the 84th minute of the game thanks to Rafa Marquez, Mexico’s captain, who scored a great goal inside the box.
Mexico settles the win in the 90th minute with an amazing run by Hirving Lozano, who crossed the ball finding Hector Herrera, who scored the third goal for the Mexicans locking up the victory.
Mexico will travel to Pasadena next Thursday, June 9, to face Jamaica, who lost against Venezuela today. Uruguay will try to recover against Venezuela on the same day.
