(June 12, 2016) - The second giant of South America falls in the group stage of Copa America Centenario. After Uruguay's disappointment in Group "C", Brazil falls in Group "B" after a controversial decision by the referee that gave Peru the winning goal.
Ecuador overcame their challenge by defeating 4-0 Haiti with goals by Enner Valencia, Jaime Ayovi, Christian Noboa and Antonio Valencia. With this victory, Ecuador put the pressure on Brazil and Peru. Brazil needed to win or draw to go to the next round while Peru's only option was to win.
A controversial decision in the 75th minute of the game Peruvian forward Raúl Ruidíaz scored the only goal of the match with his hand. Initially the referee unallowed the goal but after a talk with his assistant he allowed the goal. Turning out to be the biggest controversy of the Copa America Centenario, which took Brazil out of the 2016 Copa America.
The tournament bracket is beginning to take form with the first two games of the quarterfinals already defined. Next Thursday, June 16, the United States will play against Ecuador in Seattle, repeating the friendly match that they preparation game that the United Stated won 1-0 with a goal by Darlington Nagbe. The other quarterfinal game already defined is Peru vs. Colombia that will take place at the Metlife Stadium.
